5K Added to Annual College Run and Health Event Set for April 28

Published: 03/28/2012

Once again featured at RUN. LIVE. LEARN. will be the popular 10K Race (6.2 miles) and Fun Run (about 1 mile) -- the largest event of its kind in St. Charles County. The addition of the 5K Race (3.1 miles) means there is something for everyone, race organizers said. The 5K and 10K races are USATF-certified and, for the first time, will be chip timed. “The events have drawn as many as 600 runners and walkers each year as well as hundreds of other spectators and visitors to the Health and Wellness Expo,” said Brenda Hollrah, one of the race organizers.

The entry fee for the 10K Race (runners only, please) and 5K Race (walkers welcome) is $20, and $15 for the Fun Run. Late registration after April 24 and race-day registration is $25 for the 10K and 5K and $20 for the Fun Run. The entry fee includes a full-color dry-tec T-shirt (men’s, women’s and youth sizes available), refreshments and tickets for prize baskets. Participants may register online, by mail or in person for one of the run events. Online registration is available through the event website, www.stchas.edu/run.

The 10K Race begins at 7:30 a.m. and follows a route through Cottleville area roads and back to campus. Individual age group awards will be presented, and $100 prizes will be presented to the top male and female 10K winners.

The Fun Run starts at 9:10 a.m. and is staged on campus. All individual Fun Run finishers will receive ribbons. The 5K Race, also on campus, will begin at 9:30 a.m. Individual age group awards will be presented, and $50 prizes will be presented to the top male and female 5K winners.

The Health and Wellness Expo is free and open to the public from 8-11 a.m. in the Student Center, including entry to more than 40 exhibits with health and wellness information, screenings, product samples and refreshments. Participants will have a chance to test their fitness, learn how to take care of mind and body, receive health and safety tips, and get in shape. There will also be drawings for several prize baskets. All race participants will receive three free tickets to enter in the prize basket drawings, and additional tickets will be available for purchase at the cost of $1 for three tickets.

There will be free refreshments courtesy of local grocers and area businesses, and Missouri American Water Company will provide two water stations for the runners. Several Gold Sponsors will provide free food including: chicken sandwiches from Chick-fil-A, smoothies from Smoothie King and Qdoba will hand out new menu item samples and free entrée coupons.

Additional Gold Sponsors include Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital & Progress West HealthCare Center and STLToday.com.

Other sponsors to date include: Silver Sponsors – SSM St. Joseph Health Center & Hospital West and General Motors; Bronze Sponsors – Crown Vision Center, Missouri American Water, Eric Colton, M.D., Obstetrics and Gynecology, Crosby Chiropractic Centre, Shirt Kong, Green Lantern Car Wash, Mostly Bicycles and the Greater St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce.

Event proceeds will be used to fund college wellness and fitness projects.
