Winners Announced in 19th Annual Community College Run Events

“We are excited to offer such a fun, fitness-oriented event to the community each year,” said Heather McDorman, race co-coordinator and vice president for marketing and communications at the college.  “It’s gratifying to see community members of all ages and ability levels participate in the run/walk events, as well as have the opportunity to visit booths from a variety of local vendors.”  The 10K course is certified by USA Track and Field (USATF).

In the 10K Race, Joe Lyons, 29, of Wentzville, was first to cross the finish line.  He came in with a time of 37 minutes, 16 seconds, followed by Jason Lind, of Dardenne Prairie, at 38:15, and Brian Schoenholz, 32, of Lake St. Louis, at 38:34. Danielle Brunnworth, 41, of O’Fallon, was the first woman to cross the finish line, coming in 17th overall with a time of 44:57. Lyons and Brunnworth, the male and female overall winners, each received a $100 cash prize.

In the top SCC student, alumni, and employee categories, the first male SCC student to cross the finish line was Corey Blassie (46:16) and the first female student to finish was Michelle Harrell (52.28).  The first male alum to cross the finish line was Michael Allen (41:37), and the first female alum was Julie Sinner (50:16).  In the employee division, Jon Bowman (45:01), assistant professor of philosophy, was the first male to cross the finish line.  The first female employee to finish was Jennifer Bishop, health occupations instructor (1:04:49).

More than 85 trophies and medals were awarded in age group categories in both the 10K Race and 1-Mile Fun Run events. The 3-mile walk was non-competitive. About 325 runners entered the 10K race; the Fun Run, 93; and the 3-mile walk, 147.  A total of 565 runners and walkers registered for the event.  

The races and the 3-mile walk were featured events in the college’s annual Spring Wellness Festival, which also included some 50 exhibit booths with health and wellness information presented by hospitals, agencies, fitness organizations, businesses and institutions in the area.
