SCC's 2nd Annual Rhythm and Ribs to Raise Funds for College Scholarships, Programs

Published: 04/25/2011

“This year’s theme, ‘Eat, Drink, Rock … for education’ really says it,” said Kasey McKee, executive director of foundation and alumni relations at SCC. “SCC has educated more than 75,000 students since residents first created the community college. Rhythm and Ribs really gives people an opportunity to come onto campus and be a part of that change first-hand, helping to develop and ensure a sustainable future for the college and for the community.”

Local groups will serve up the food and fun, with Smash Band live on the main stage at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the St. Charles West Jazz Ensemble. Guests will enjoy ribs from Ethyl’s Smokehouse and Saloon in O’Fallon and Mannino’s Market in Cottleville, and additional “eats” from Chick-fil-A, Dunkin Donuts and Quintessential Catering. Drinks will include Anhueser-Busch products by Krey Distributing Co., beer from O’Fallon Brewery, teas and lemonades from Red Robin and wines from Terra Firma USA. The event also will include a raffle for donated, themed baskets such as a Cardinal’s ticket package from U.S. Cellular and a movie/music/game basket from Slackers.

“It’s encouraging to see community support grow as more people get involved with the event and realize the direct link between the success of our students and the success of our community as a whole,” said Julie Zust, finance manager for Boeing Research and Technology and event co-chair. “We’re so pleased to offer increased food and drink options this year, and to welcome many new local business and individual sponsors.”

In addition to Zust, the Rhythm and Ribs event co-chairs are Cindy Elking, owner of Quintessential Catering, and Chuck Pilliod, CFO at Krey Distributing Co.

The three Main Stage sponsors are Ameren Missouri, Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital/Progress West HealthCare Center and SSM St. Joseph Health Center/SSM St. Joseph Hospital West.
