SCC Foundation Partners with Community Council of St. Charles County to Sponsor Volunteer Fair During National Volunteer Week

Published: 03/23/2010

The SCC Foundation is partnering with the Community Council of St. Charles County to offer this unique opportunity for members of the community who are interested in volunteering at a nonprofit organization.  Students and others are encouraged to learn about the nonprofit sector by visiting the exhibits and inquiring about career and service opportunities.  The diverse mix of nonprofits will include those serving children, elderly and disabled individuals, as well as organizations with educational, cultural and civic missions.

“We are thrilled to co-sponsor the fair with the Community Council,” said Kasey McKee, executive director of foundation and alumni relations at SCC. “We think this is a great opportunity for SCC to provide a service to the members of our community.”

National Volunteer Week, which is April 18-24, celebrates the contributions of volunteers from all walks of life.  Students and citizens attending the fair will receive a free directory of community organizations recruiting volunteers.  The directory will include volunteer opportunities and contact information for the organizations.

Also at the fair, the public will have an opportunity to serve the community by participating in “Add Color to the Challenge Walk,” a service project that supports the National MS Society Challenge Walk. All ages are free to stop by and decorate posters that will later be displayed along the walk to encourage the 250 walkers. Participants in the Challenge Walk start from St. Charles Community College on June 4.  To reserve your spot to help on this project, e-mailvolunteer@communitycouncilstc.org
