Published: 11/03/2010

Wright studied for her GED in a class offered at the SCC location, and was nominated by Cyril Post, her GED instructor. Morgan studied at the Missouri Career Center, SCC’s Workforce Development location, and was nominated by Mona Garrison, her GED instructor. Wright received her GED certificate in November 2009, and Morgan received her GED certificate in December 2009.

“We are very proud of Sandra and Heidi, who were among a select few in Missouri nominated for the Postsecondary Tuition Scholarship,” said Diane Schroeder, associate dean of extended learning. “They represent the class of more than 200 students at SCC who achieved their GED credential last year.”

Wright and Morgan are currently employed, and would like to continue their education at a college level in the future.

SCC’s GED program teaches basic reading, math and writing skills to prepare people to take the GED tests. SCC has offered free GED preparation classes since it opened its doors nearly 25 years ago. The Adult Education and Literacy program at SCC served 910 students during the 2009-10 school year. More than 10,000 Missouri residents passed the GED tests in 2009.
