SCC Alum Jennifer White Receives Alumni Award of Distinction

Published: 11/09/2009

Earlier this year, White was named the 2009 Distinguished Alumni at St. Charles Community College.  She accepted the award at the college’s commencement ceremony in May.

White, an O’Fallon resident, attended SCC from 1994-1996, and then transferred to the University of Missouri-St. Louis to finish her Bachelor of Science degree in education. She received her master’s degree in 2003 from Lindenwood University, and went on to complete her Doctorate of Education degree at Lindenwood in 2008.

Edie Kirk, associate vice president for Foundation and alumni affairs, said White’s educational and professional successes make her a natural choice for this award.

“Jennifer White believes in the power of education – for herself and for her students,” Kirk said.  “She decided early in her educational journey that a doctorate would give her knowledge that would help her to be the best administrator possible for her students, and she worked until she achieved it.  Jennifer is dedicated to her students and to doing everything possible to help them be successful.”

Bernard J. DuBray, superintendent for the Fort Zumwalt School District Schools, said White has been an asset to the school district as both a teacher and administrator.

“She is well respected by her colleagues and co-workers and has a tenacious drive to accomplish her goals for the school,” he said.  “She has been a leader in our school district and is a strong administrator who has a bright future.”

White became involved in the Fort Zumwalt School District Positive Peer Influence program to help students develop leadership skills and characteristics. She has also served as member of the school district’s Bullying Task Force to ensure safety and help with the prevention of bullying in schools.  She is the task force lead for her building.  Additionally, White is the facilitator of the district-wide “Teaching New Teachers” program, which keeps first year teachers engaged by providing a resource for new techniques.
