Duties:

St. Charles Community College is seeking a full-time Professional Counselor to provide professional counseling assistance to SCC students with personal issues that are affecting their education and retention in college. Facilitates department activities for the college community.

Other duties: 

  • Facilitates short-term, personal counseling to help students identify and understand personal issues that are affecting their quality of life, education, and/or work performance.
  • Serves as liaison to all SCC departments, facilitating communication with staff, faculty and administration on issues (not limited to) including Counseling Services.
  • Provides mental-health consultation services for members of the college community.
  • Provides case management through support, tracking, and follow-up and participates in promoting student resiliency.
  • Develops and implements counseling services, sponsored outreach, and activities for SCC.
  • Develops and maintains a networking relationship with community referral resources.
  • Provides crisis intervention for emergencies within the college community.
  • Assists in preparation and management of annual budget.
  • Maintains confidential records and complete all case notes timely. Complies with both Federal and State regulations.
  • Serves on SCC committees as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including attending college functions.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or related field required from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning. Three or more years’ prior therapeutic experience in a school based or related setting; or PhD in related area and one or more years’ experience in a clinical setting.  Experience or training in substance abuse issues. Training in CBT, DBT, and solution-Focused Therapy preferred. Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor required.
