Duties:

St. Charles Community College is seeking a part-time, project-based HVAC/Mechanic/Maintenance Technician who will perform skilled technical work, in the installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration system. Inspects and test both high and low pressure refrigerant systems to locate and diagnose faults and malfunctions, performs required repairs through replacement of inoperative parts or adjustment of thermostatic controls and blowers, and provides an estimate of repair cost.

Other duties:

  • Performs, troubleshoots, and repairs control devices and wiring within the HVAC related systems.
  • Maintains, repairs, and modifies secondary refrigerant systems including: pumps, valves, cooling, air moving equipment, temperature/ pressure controls, etc.
  • Complies with EPA regulations of regulated refrigerants and recovery equipment, maintains required records.
  • Provides technical assistance on the purchase of mechanical systems.
  • Provides preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment.
  • Maintains electrical and mechanical tools.
  • Operates energy management system as needed.
  • Replaces inoperative parts such as: belts, fans, motors, pumps, etc.
  • Assists Maintenance Assistant and Maintenance Technician as directed.
  • Repairs food service equipment.
  • Assists in snow removal.

Qualifications:

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, blue prints and electrical schematics. Ability to use test equipment and small hand tools, such as drills, oxygen-acetylene torches, volt-ohmmeters, circuit testers and manifold gauges. Computer literacy is required. Must have verifiable universal certification by the EPA for handling all types of refrigerants. Class A, B, C, or E Driver’s License required with an acceptable driving record.
