Center Stage Theatre to hold open auditions for 'Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music' Oct. 5-6

Published: 09/16/2015

There are open roles for two women, two men and one teenage boy. Roles are open for ages 14-40. Actors are encouraged to prepare a one- to two-minute monologue; however, it is not necessary. Cold readings from the script will be used during auditions. Scripts are on reserve at the SCC Library.

The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, Nov. 18-21; 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22. Tickets are free to SCC students with ID, or $8 general admission and $6 seniors, veterans and students. The campus is located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville.

The play, written by Lee Blessing, features Eve Wilfong, who lives above the Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music Bar in a dusty Texas town. Wilfong is paid an unexpected visit by her niece Catherine. Catherine, a novice nun who’s been asked to leave her convent because she suffers from inappropriate and hilarious compulsions. The rough-and-tumble Jim owns the bar and is involved with Eve. Jim is doing his best to tolerate Eve’s teenage hellion of a son, Jason, while he visits. Throw Roy, a regular at the bar who is completely infatuated with Catherine, into the mix and comedy rapidly builds.
