Questions & Answers About iConnect for Students

Q: How do I get my new login ID?

A: You will need your Student ID number to activate your account. You can find your Student ID on your SCC Picture ID or in the upper left corner of any reciept from the cashier.

How to retrieve your new login ID:

  1. Go to www.stchas.edu/webadv/welcome.shtml.
  2. Click on “activate my Login.”
  3. Enter your student ID number, the last four (4) digits of your Social Security number, and date of birth.
  4. Next, create your SCC login password by following the password guidelines listed there; then confirm it by re-entering it.
  5. After setting your new password, your new SCC login ID will display on the screen.

Q: Are there any rules for creating my password?

A:  Yes, there are a number of rules or criteria for creating an SCC password. SCC establishes this set of criteria for security purposes, to keep others from potentially discovering your password.

You will find the following criteria also noted when you activate your login.

  • Must contain at least 8 and no more than 16 characters.
  • Must contain at least one upper case and one lower case letter and one number. These may be in any order. Here are a few password examples based on the word “academics”:
Ex. 1:  Academics0663 (the “A” serves as the upper case letter followed by a number of lower case letters, followed by four numerals. This totals 13 characters and falls into the acceptable range of 8 to 16 characters).
Ex. 2:  acadEMICS6 (the first four letters are lower case; the second five are upper case; and there is just one numeral. This totals 10 characters and falls into the acceptable range of 8 to 16 characters).
Ex. 3: 0663ACAd (the first four characters are numerals; the first three letters are upper case; the fourth letter is lower case. This total 8 characters, the minimum number of characters allowed for a password).
  • Must not contain your first or last name
  • Must not contain any of the following characters: - ; / ? : @ & = _ + \ ,

Please note: Passwords are case sensitive. You must enter your password EXACTLY as you established it, correctly noting the upper and lower case characters.
Example: If your password was Ex. 1 above, “Academics0663,” and you entered “academics0663” instead, you would receive an error message because you did not correctly capitalize the first letter “A.”

Q: What is the difference between my student ID number and my login ID?

A: Your student ID number is the seven-digit number that was assigned to you when you first enrolled at SCC. If you have an SCC picture ID, you will find it at the top right corner of your ID. You will also find your student ID number at the top left corner of your course schedule, just above your name.

Your new login ID, along with your password, will enable you to log in to online services such as SCC Connection and WebCT. The format of your new login ID will be your first name initial, your last name initial, and a random six-digit number.

Ex. Jane Doe’s login ID: jd123456

Q: I don’t currently use any of SCC’s online services. How will this change affect me?

A: It may encourage you to take advantage of the convenience of our online services!

While students are not required to register or pay online, they must log onto SCC Connection to access their grades. Because SCC no longer mails grades to students’ homes, you must now login to SCC Connection to find out how you did!

Also, some instructors use WebCT course management software to conduct class activities online. If you wish to take distance learning courses, or you are taking a traditional classroom course that has a WebCT component, you will need to use your new single login ID to access the course.

Wireless Web access will be available early in the spring 2007 semester. You will need your new login ID for wireless Web access as well. Watch for more on the availability of wi-fi.

Finally, within the next several months, you will also receive an SCC e-mail address. SCC will send important news you need to know about policies and procedures, registration and payment deadlines, and campus activities to this campus-assigned address. Your new login will give you access to your e-mailbox and important SCC news.

Q: What if I forget my password?

A: When you set your password the first time, you will answer a number of personal questions that will serve as hints if you forget your password. Only you will know the answer to these questions so that no one else will be able to guess your password. (Of course, it’s important not to share these answers with others!)

Q: Does my new login ID work with all online services?

A: No. Your new login ID and password will allow you to access SCC Connection, WebCT, and future services such as wireless Web access and e-mail.

The following SCC online services require other login criteria: ConnectEdu for transfer students, Career Central Network for student employment search, MOBIUS network/library services, online tuition payment through the FACTS plan, and online purchases through the SCC Bookstore.

Q:  What if I have problems getting my new ID? Who can I call?

A: The SCC Student Help Desk is available to help students use online services. Call 636-922-8555 or e-mail SCCHelpDesk@stchas.edu.

Q: Can students obtain their new login and password in person at the college rather than using the Web? I’m concerned about giving any personal information over the Internet.

A: The account activation process is Web-based-only; students must use a Web browser to get their new login ID and password.

SCC information technology staff members have worked diligently to make sure the SCC system is as secure as possible. If you are not confident that your Internet connection or personal computer are secure, you can come to campus and use one of our public-accessible computers to activate your account.  These computers, and the network that connects them, are as highly secured as the SCC servers that actually store students’ personal information.

To keep your student information account secure, only you should know your password. Be sure to follow the password guidelines listed on this page when you create yours. Making sure your password is unique and keeping it private will ensure that no one can access your account.
