Questions & Answers About iConnect
for Faculty and Staff
Q: How will I get my new login ID?
A:All faculty and any staff that access WebCT or SCC
Connection must use the following process to get their new login ID:
How to retrieve your new login ID:
- Go to www.stchas.edu/webadv/welcome.shtml.
- Click on the faculty/staff link “activate my
login.”
- Enter your SCC e-mail address, the last
four (4) digits of your Social Security number, and date of birth.
- Next, create your SCC login password by following the password guidelines
listed there; then confirm it by re-entering it.
- After setting your new password, your new SCC login ID will display
on the screen.
Q: Are there any rules for creating my
password?
A: Yes, there are a number of rules or criteria
for creating an SCC password. SCC establishes this set of criteria for
security purposes, to keep others from potentially discovering your password.
You will find the following criteria also noted when you activate your
login.
- Must contain at least 8 and no more than 16 characters.
- Must contain at least one upper case and one lower case letter
and one number. These may be in any order. Here are a few password
examples based on the word “academics”:
Ex. 1: Academics0663
(the “A” serves as the upper case letter followed by a number of
lower case letters, followed by four numerals. This totals 13 characters and
falls into the acceptable range of 8 to 16 characters).
Ex. 2: acadEMICS6
(the first four letters are lower case; the second five are upper case; and
there is just one numeral. This totals 10 characters and falls into the acceptable
range of 8 to 16 characters).
Ex. 3: 0663ACAd
(the first four characters are numerals; the first three letters are upper
case; the fourth letter is lower case. This total 8 characters, the minimum
number of characters allowed for a password).
- Must not contain your first or last name
- Must not contain any of the following characters: - ; / ? : @ & =
_ + \ ,
Please
note: Passwords are case sensitive. You must enter your password EXACTLY
as you established it, correctly noting the upper and lower case characters.
For example: If your password was Ex. 1 above, “Academics0663,” and
you entered “academics0663” instead, you would receive an error
message because you did not correctly capitalize the first letter “A.”
Q: I am both a student and faculty/staff
member. Do I have to get new login IDs for both?
A: You will only need a new faculty/staff login ID.
This will give you access to both your student and employee information.
Q: Will this login ID provide access to other online services
such as e-mail?
A: No. Faculty and staff will still need to use their present User Name and Password
to log on to Windows and to access e-mail.
Q: What is the difference between my User
Name and my login ID?
A:Your User Name is your first initial and last name
(the same one you use to log into Windows and e-mail). Your User Name
will remain the same.
Your new login ID, along with your password, will enable you to log on to online
services such as SCC Connection and WebCT. The format of your new login ID will
be first name initial, last name initial, and random six-digit number.
Ex. Jane Doe’s login ID: jd123456
Q: What if I forget my password?
A: When you set your password the first time, you will
answer a number of personal questions that will serve as hints if you
forget your password. Only you will know the answer to these questions
so that no one else will be able to guess your password. (Of course,
it’s important not to share these answers with others!)
Q: What if I have problems getting my new ID? Who can
I call?
A: If you need help with WebCT, contact David
Willmore at 636-922-8514. If you need technical support for a software
or hardware issue, call the Computer Maintenance Hotline at 636-922-8369.
Q: Can I obtain my new login and password
in person at the college rather than using the Web? I’m concerned
about giving any personal information over the Internet.
A: The account activation process is Web-based-only; students must use
a Web browser to get their new login ID and password.
SCC information technology staff members have worked diligently to make
sure the SCC system is as secure as possible. If you are not confident
that your Internet connection or personal computer are secure, you can
come to campus and use one of our public-accessible computers to activate
your account. These computers, and the network that connects them,
are as highly secured as the SCC servers that actually store students’ personal
information.
To keep your information account secure, only you should know
your password. Be sure to follow the password guidelines listed
on this page when you create yours. Making sure your password is unique
and keeping it private will ensure that no one can access your account.
