Assistance - State Funded Programs
State Funded Programs:
The following programs are funded through Missouri Department
of Higher Education (MDHE). Detailed information contained in
this section can also be found at:

- Missouri Access Grant
The Access Missouri Program replaces the Charles Gallagher and the
College Guarantee Program. The grant is awarded to state residents
based on demonstrated need. The FAFSA must be received by the Federal
Processor on or before April 1 to be considered an on-time application
(including signature requirements) and student must have an Expected
Family Contribution (EFC) under 12,000. Other pertinent information
is as follows:
- Student must be enrolled as a full-time (12+ credit hours)
student to be considered eligible.
- A 2.50 cumulative grade point average must be achieved in
each term to be considered eligible.
- The amount of the scholarship correlates to the type of institution
attended. Public two-year sector: $300 minimum and $1000
maximum, public four year sector including Linn State Technical
College:
$1,000 minimum and $2,150 maximum and private institutions:
$2, 000 minimum and $4,600 maximum.
- Missouri Access Grants are only awarded during the fall and
spring terms.
- Marguerite Ross Barnett Memorial Scholarship
The Marguerite Ross Barnett Memorial Scholarship program provides scholarship
awards to part-time undergraduate students who are employed 20 hours
or more per week. Eligible students must demonstrate financial
need as determined by their Student Aid Report (SAR). The maximum
award may not exceed the amount of tuition per credit hour for a part-time
undergraduate Missouri resident at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
- Missouri Higher Education Academic Scholarship Program
The Missouri Higher Education Academic Scholarship Program, also known
as "Bright Flight," provides scholarship awards in the amount of $2,000
per year to eligible students. To be eligible you must:
- be a Missouri resident.
- attend a participating Missouri post-secondary school full-time.
- be a current high school senior who plans to enroll as a first-time,
full-time student.
- have a composite score on the American College Testing Program
(ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) in the top 3 percent
of all Missouri students taking those tests.
- Public Survivor Grant Program
This program provides tuition grants to eligible students enrolled
in participating Missouri post-secondary schools. You may be
eligible if you are:
- a Missouri resident.
- a citizen and permanent resident of the United States.
- a dependent child of a public safety officer or employee of the
Department of Highway and Transportation (engages in the construction
or maintenance of the state highways, roads, and bridges) who was
killed in the line of duty.
- enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time undergraduate
student in a course of study leading to a certificate, or an associate
or baccalaureate degree at a participating Missouri school for the
period of the grant.
- younger than 24 years of age and have not obtained a baccalaureate
degree.
- maintaining satisfactory academic progress according to the standards
of your school.
The maximum annual grant is the least of: the actual tuition charged
a full-time student at the approved institution where the eligible
survivor is enrolled, or the average amount of tuition charged a full-time
Missouri resident at the four regional public institutions.
- Vietnam Veterans Survivors Grant Program
This state program provides tuition grants to undergraduate students
who are survivors of Vietnam veterans. You may be eligible if
you meet the following conditions:
- a United States citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
- enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time undergraduate
student leading to a certificate or degree at a participating Missouri
post-secondary institution.
- a child or spouse of a Vietnam veteran whose death was attributed
to or caused by exposure to toxic chemicals during the Vietnam conflict.
- maintain satisfactory academic progress according to standards
determined by the approved institution.
The applicant must provide a qualified medical certification by a
Veteran's Administration medical authority to verify that the exposure
to toxic chemicals contributed to or was the cause of the death of
the veteran. Scholarship can be renewed annually until a student
has obtained a baccalaureate degree or completed 150 semester credit
hours. Scholarship awards are not available during summer school
terms.
