In his 11th year as head coach, Coach Chris Gober is planning
for another 30-win season. Since taking over the helm, Gober has recorded
a total of 242 wins, the most games won by a head coach in Cougar history.
He also helped produce nine players who have been drafted and/or signed
professional contracts, and 20 Cougars have earned first team All-Midwest
Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) honors. Six of his student-athletes
have garnered All-American honors, and 12 have received first team All-Region
XVI accolades.

Mike Buda enters his first season as a member St. Charles Community College coaching staff. Coach Buda handles the pitching coach responsibilities and first base coaching duties.
Buda’s ties to St. Charles Community College began in 2003 as a player. Buda was a starter on the Cougar pitching staff for two years. He was an All-Region selection in 2005 as a pitcher, and was also named 1st Team All-MCCAC as a sophomore. Buda
continued his playing career at the Western Carolina University,
lettering two years.

Mike Haftarczyk enters his first season on the St. Charles Community College coaching staff. Coach Haftarczyk works with the hitters and infielders as well as base coaching duties. Haftarczyk played at SCC from 1999-2001. He was an All-Region performer in 2001 as an infielder. He holds virtually every Cougar season and career offensive record.

Kris Caldwell is beginning her first season as the head softball coach at St. Charles Community College, after serving two seasons with Washington University. In her second season with the Bears, Washington University posted a 35-7 overall record and made it’s first-ever trip to the College World Series. Caldwell, who served as the pitching coach, helped guide the staff to a 1.25 ERA with 21 shutouts.
Caldwell comes to SCC with more than 15 years of coaching experience. She is the Lead Instructor of Game Day Academy in Valley Park, Mo. and All-American Softball and Baseball Academy. Caldwell has had assistant coaching stints at Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville and Lewis & Clark Community College, and served as a graduate assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky University in 1995-96.
She also served as the head coach at Piedmont College in 1997, guiding the Lions to a conference championship, and their first berth in the NAIA National Tournament. A two-year letter winner at SIUE, Caldwell appeared in 117 career games for the Cougars. In 1989, she hit .355 with 22 RBIs. En route to earning second-team all-Central Region Honors a year later, Caldwell hit .298 with 22 RBIs as SIUE made its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Caldwell graduated from SIUE in 1991, and received her Master’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1996.

Tom Kearns enters his first year coaching with St. Charles Community College. He looks to guide SCC to a successful campaign intheir inaugural season as a NJCAA sanctioned sport. He is currently a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and holds a national license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
Kearns began coaching in 1991 after graduating from Southern Methodist University. He has worked with various soccer clubs throughout his coaching career, including the Dallas Rockets, Dallas D’feeters, and Legend Soccer Club of Arlington, Tex.
From 1987 to 1990, Kearns played Division I soccer for SMU. He was a four-year letterman and competed in the NCAA playoffs each of his four seasons. He played under Schellas Hyndman, the current head coach for F.C. Dallas of Major League Soccer.
Kearns is originally from the Florissant area and grew up playing for Scott Gallagher Soccer Club. His club team won three state titles, a regional title, and played in the U16 National Finals. His teams were directed by current Scott Gallagher director of coaching Tom Howe. He also attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florissant. Under the direction of legendary high school coach Vince Drake, he led his team to the Missouri State High School Soccer Championship in 1985 (a 3-2 victory over CBC of St. Louis).

Joe Boll brings vast experience to the SCC program. He was instrumental in bringing soccer to the NJCAA level at SCC. Prior to SCC forming a NJCAA soccer program, Boll guided the SCC club soccer teams. He guided the SCC women’s teams for five seasons and the men’s team for two seasons.
Boll also started the men’s and women’s varsity soccer programs at Windsor High School, coaching each program for 12 years. In addition to his high school and collegiate experience, Boll coached club soccer for the Coca-Cola Soccer Club for 10 years.
Boll currently holds a FIFA international “B” coaching license.

John Crowley enters his first year coaching with St. Charles Community College. Coach Crowley will focus primarily on the defensive side of the team. Crowley has substantial experience playing as well as coaching.
Crowley played club soccer and high school soccer with SCC Head Coach Tom Kearns. He played on the Missouri State High School Soccer Championship Team at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1985. After high school, Crowley went on to play soccer at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley. After Florissant Valley, he furthered his playing and academic career by at Missouri Valley College.
Crowley has established himself among the coaching ranks over the past 10 years. His experience includes Catholic Youth Council (CYC), St. Charles County Youth Soccer Association (SCCYSA), and St. Louis Youth Soccer Association (SLYSA). SCC will utilize his experience to help develop this young program into a nationally ranked team.

Brian Dougherty is transitioning from a standout soccer player to a young, motivated coach. Dougherty played for the SCC club soccer team in the fall of 2007 and 2008. As a player he was a leader on the field for SCC, and he plans to be a leader from the sidelines in 2009.
Prior to playing at SCC, Dougherty excelled at Francis Howell Central High School. He was a member of the varsity program for three seasons. He was also a leader throughout his time playing club soccer and spent a number of years competing for Lou Fusz Soccer Club. Dougherty led his team to a No. 3 ranking in the state of Missouri.
Dougherty will settle into his new role with SCC and looks to share his knowledge with the talented players entering the soccer program this fall.

Emily S. Holbrook, a former collegiate NAIA and NCAA Division I player, an academic with honor awards, and an international player on professional teams from England and Canada, is the new women’s head coach at St. Charles Community College. She has coached at the college, high school, and youth levels.
Coach Holbrook began her soccer career at the age of six. She was the Alabama state champion at the U-12 and U-14 age groups two years in a row and was on both the Olympic Development Program in Alabama and the region. She attended Belhaven College, where she was the starting goalkeeper. She later attained her associate’s degree at Chattanooga State Technological Community College, where she was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She played for and graduated from Tennessee Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She continued her education by obtaining a master’s degree in leadership, and also was inducted into the honor society, Sigma Beta Delta.
After graduating, Holbrook traveled to England, where she signed with Hampton Ladies FC. The team excelled in their league and progressed to the fourth round of Football Association Cup play. She was scouted by Charlton Athletic Women’s FC and finished the season with them. She also played for Toronto Inferno in the Women’s W League in Summer 2003. That fall Holbrook returned to England and signed with Blackburn Rovers Ladies FC in Lancashire, England. The team obtained the Northern Combination League Champions title with an undefeated season (22-0). They won the Lancashire County Cup and went to the fourth round of Football Association Cup play. While at Blackburn Rovers FC she coached at the FA Centre of Excellence and the Blackburn Rovers In Community (BRIC) program. Holbrook later played for Liverpool Ladies FC of the National League in the late fall 2004.
Holbrook was appointed assistant women’s soccer coach at Shorter College in Rome, Ga., where she helped the Lady Hawks to the SSAC tournament for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. She also was an Olympic Development Program coach in Northwest Georgia and for the Rome Arsenal Soccer Academy. She holds both a USSF National C license and a Regional Goalkeeping license. Holbrook is also the Huddle Coach for FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) at St Charles Community college.

Becky Witt has been holding down the fort in the Athletics Department since 1999. When the coaches are out on the field, in practice, or on the road, Witt is there to help with inquiries of student-athletes as well as the media and public.
