COUGAR SOFTBALL REVAMPED AND READY

Head Softball Coach Kris Caldwell is excited for her first season at SCC. With 5 returning sophomores and 8 incoming freshmen, Coach Caldwell has lofty expectations for the 2009 season.

“We have a young yet very talented team that should put SCC Softball back into the hunt for the Conference Championship,” Coach Caldwell said.

With a young team and a new coach, people might expect this to be a rebuilding year for the Cougars. Caldwell said this is not the case, as the coach and players have many years of experience and are ready to compete together as a team.

The squad is led by sophomores: Amy Brickey (C), Meghan Harper (1st), Nina Mayer (OF), Rachael Nolan (C), and Jacqueline Valli (3rd). Each of these sophomores bring experience in the conference and have all stepped into a leadership role. Each sophomore is responsible for specific aspects in the program. They come to each practice or softball event with a great deal of enthusiasm that creates a positive learning environment.

In addition to the sophomores, the Cougars have added 8 freshmen to the roster: Nicole Crisler (OF), Nikki Dunard (OF), Sydney Long (P), Danielle Mallinckrodt (2nd) Ali Nemec (C), Megan Skinner (P), and Chelsey Snead (P).

The freshmen bring an outstanding work ethic and are willing to continue the tradition of taking this program to the next level.

“This freshman class will continue to build the winning tradition that this program has had in the past,” Caldwell said. “I am excited about the prospect of what this class can do for the future of SCC Softball.”

Caldwell said the team is aware of what they need to do in order to win.

“Our plan is to ATTACK THE BALL on both sides,” she said. “Keeping our opponent off balance will aid in our effort to be successful. I am looking forward to watching the team improve with each game we play.”
