Coaches Look for a Breakthrough Season for Women

First year Head Coach Cassandra Samson and Assistant Coach Joe Samson are excited about the 2007 spring season.

“With all the hard work and training that our girls have gone through in the off-season, they are biting at the chomps to get on the field,” Samson said.

The off-season has been spent rebuilding the Cougar program into a force to be reckoned with, Samson said.

“With only two returning sophomores from the 2006 squad, Lindsey Eoff and Beth Schwendemann, there have been some big changes taking place. The Cougars are a young team, but this poses no concerns because they are hungry for the win,” she said.

“We added some experience to our squad with the addition of two sophomore transfers, Brooke Meyer and Lindsey Parker, who have made an immediate impact on the team.”

Still, it will be the combination of every player’s talents – freshmen and sophomores – that will make the program excel this season, Samson said.

“We are relishing in the opportunity to surprise our opponents both offensively and defensively,” Samson said.

The 2007 pitching staff is completely new. Sophomore right-hander Lindsey Parker adds speed as well as dominance on the mound, while freshman right-hander Ashley Frazzetta offers control and composure. “The two of them complement each other well on the mound,” Samson said.

The Cougars offense will be unstoppable. In the short fall season alone the Cougars offense managed to compile seven  home runs and more than 20 runs
collectively.

“Our girls are aggressive at the plate and love the opportunity to overtake a pitcher. Our line up will be sound from top to bottom,” Samson said.

“Expect to see some ESPN plays this year; our girls don’t think twice about laying out for a ball, they just react,” she said.

From the outfield to the infield, the pitching staff will have a solid backing.

Look to see a breakout season for the 2007 Lady Cougars!
