International
Student Admissions
International students who are requesting I-20s for F-1 visas
to study at St. Charles Community College must fulfill the following
requirements for admission:
Note: SCC does not provide housing or transportation.
First Time International Students
- Obtain an "International Student Application Packet" and submit an
application to the Office of Admissions and Registration.
- Complete the TOEFL test. A minimum score of 173 is required for
the computerized version. A minimum of 500 is required on the written
version, and a minimum of 61 is required on the Internet version.
SCC does not accept TOEFL waivers. An official score report must be
submitted to the Office of Admissions and Registration. To signup, take a practice test, or for more information see www.toefl.org.
- Submit official transcripts from high school and all colleges attended. Transcripts
must be translated into English and include course descriptions, final
grades, and an explanation of the grading system.
- International students are required to submit an Affidavit
of Financial Support that certifies adequate funds are available
to support the student throughout the course of study under normal
conditions. The form must be notarized and no older than one year. A certified current bank statement should accompany
the Affidavit of Financial Support.
- Complete the "Conditions of Enrollment” statement
- must be received before an I-20 will be requested.
- Send all completed forms and documents to:

- Once all documentation and TOEFL scores are received, admissions prints the I-20 (approval to study at SCC) form and mails it to the student in their home country, along with a letter explaining that the student must meet with the international student coordinator and take the Academic Skills Assessment .
- When the student receives the I-20, he/she must pay the SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Information System) fee, and make an appointment for an interview with their closest U.S. embassy or consulate. Bring a passport, a receipt showing the SEVIS fee has been paid, and copies of financial documents. The SEVIS fee can be paid at fmjfee.com.
- After the interview, the embassy may or may not issue the F-1 visa.
- The visa may be issued up to 90 days before school begins, but the student is only allowed to arrive 30 days before school begins (i.e., Spring semester begins in January – an international student can come into the U.S. no sooner than the December before.)
- Students are required to complete the SCC Academic Skills Assessment prior to enrollment for the first semester. After completing
the assessment, an advising appointment with the International Student
Coordinator is required.
- Tuition
and fees (at the out-of-state rate) are due in full by the payment
due date. Nelnet Payment Plan Option is not available to International
Students or their sponsors.
- Students must submit copies of their passport F1 visa, and valid
Form I-94 (arrival-departure record) when they meet with the International Student Coordinator. SCC reserves the right to deny
admissions to any student with an expired Form I-94.
- All F1 students are required to provide
proof of health care insurance. SCC does not provide insurance; we
will provide names of various providers.
Students Transferring to SCC
From Another U.S. Institution
- Application for Admission - see International Student Packet.
- Applicants who have attended college in the United States should
request that official transcripts be sent to the Registrar’s
Office. Transcripts must be mailed directly from the transferring institution.
Transfer students must complete
the “Supplemental Information Form”.
- International students are required to submit an Affidavit

Visiting International Students
- International students who are attending another institution and
wish to enroll at SCC as a visiting student must submit an Application
for Admission and an authorization letter from the institution certifying that the student is allowed to take courses at SCC.
- A copy of your current I-20.
- Tuition
and fees (at the out-of-state rate) are due in full by the payment
due date. Nelnet Payment Plan Option is not available to International
Students or their sponsors.
