Student Nursing Organization Meeting Minutes

August 29,2005

Old News:

  • Kim called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m.
  • Michelle made a motion to accept the April meeting minutes. Angela second the motion, all were in favor of the motion.
  • $ 600 was left in "15" account from last semester was used for Fall Orientation; thus the $250.00 previously voted on was not taken out for this purpose.
  • Pinning Ceremony Results were as follows: only 50% of the students surveyed responded to the survey and the majority of the votes chose to have the ceremony after the graduation on Saturday May 13, 2006 at Calvary church or another place away from school. The church can only be reserved six months in advance.
 New News:
  • Mrs. Moody requested $250 cash donation from "60" account to benefit the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation. The donated money will be used purchase pink baseball caps in which profit sales will benefit stated organization. Carrie made a motion to donate the money and Sandi second the motion, all were in favor of the motion.
  • The Allied Health Committee requested $100.00 in funds to cover printing costs of material for the fair. Suzy made a motion to release those funds. Sarah second the motion. All were in favor of the motion.
  • The re-vote to donate funds to the Pediatric Units of the Psychiatric Hospitals both St. Joseph's and St. Vincent's was tabled until the October meeting.
  • Kim brought to the table changing the SNO Constitution to include membership requirement and changing the wording of the constitution so it could be added. Carrie made a motion that a SNO member would pay a set fee annually to join the organization as a member. Sandi second the motion, all were in favor of the motion.
  • It was discussed that the membership fee annually would be $10.00. Kathy made the motion and Sandi second the motion, 21 students were in favor and one student was opposed.
  • All nursing students are allowed to attend meetings during school year, but only members will be able to vote and benefit from events sponsored by the Student Nursing Organization. Michelle made a motion to change the wording of the constitution to include the membership requirement and Jennifer second the motion, all were in favor of the motion.
  • Volunteers are needed to sit at the SNO booth during the Fall Blitz Booth on Sept. 7h and Sept. 8th from 11 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Sarah and Robin will be there on Sept. 7 and Kathy and Michelle will be there on Sept 8. Anyone else who wants can stop by and help out or contact Kim for more information.
  • We need volunteers to go to the Senate meetings once a month on Tuesdays from 2:40 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Second year students have clinical during this time so we could use first year students that are interested to sign up. Please call Kim Giddings for information.
  • Steve gave a report on the sales of medical equipment during orientation. Over $3,000.00 medical equipment was sold and SNO made over $150.00
  • Jennifer and Carrie reported the Fall Orientation was a big success. We have 46 first year students signed up for the mentoring program. There will be a kick off for the program on September 12 in the evening. 
  • There will be an Initial Pinning Ceremony Committee Meeting on September 12, at 2 p.m. If you are on the committee please make plans to attend
  • Attention all nursing students the SNO kick-off party is on September 12 at 1 p.m. in the private dining room off the cafeteria. Please come and meeting old and new members.
