JENNIFER WHITE RECEIVES SCC DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD
The St. Charles Community College (SCC) Foundation has announced the recipient of the college’s 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award, presented at the 21st annual SCC commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16, in the College Center on campus.
The award was presented to Jennifer White of O’Fallon, eighth grade assistant principal at DuBray Middle School in the Fort Zumwalt School District.
White attended SCC from 1994-1996, and then transferred to the University of Missouri-St. Louis to finish her Bachelor of Science degree in education. She received her master’s degree in 2003 from Lindenwood University, and went on to complete her Doctorate of Education degree at Lindenwood in 2008.
“Jennifer White was the kind of student that makes memories for teachers: bright, determined, focused, and a joy to have in class,” said Cynthia Vitale, associate dean of the School of Education at Lindenwood University. “Her assets include the ability to solve problems at a moment’s notice, the desire to assist others who struggle in the school setting, and the attributes which promote long-lasting connections with classmates and teachers.”
Bernard J. DuBray, superintendent for the Fort Zumwalt School District Schools, said White has been an asset to the school district as both a teacher and administrator.
“She is well respected by her colleagues and co-workers and has a tenacious drive to accomplish her goals for the school,” he said. “She has been a leader in our school district, and is a strong administrator who has a bright future.”
White became involved in the Fort Zumwalt School District Positive Peer Influence program to help students develop leadership skills and characteristics. She has also served as member of the school district’s Bullying Task Force to ensure safety and help with the prevention of bullying in schools. She is the task force lead for her building. Additionally, White is the facilitator of the district-wide “Teaching New Teachers” program, which keeps first year teachers engaged by providing a resource for new techniques.
White is a founding member of the SCC Alumni Council, a group dedicated to contributing to the future of SCC.
White received the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award from Julie Bartch, president of the SCC Foundation. The Foundation initiated the award in 2006 and solicits nominations from the community.
