SCC HOCKEY HAS HIGH HOPES FOR SEASON’S SECOND HALF

If it’s not luck that keeps the St. Charles Community College Roller Hockey Club winning game after game, then it must be weak competition. Right? Wrong, according to SCC hockey coach Justin Goad.

“Our goaltending behind starter Kevin Hesemann has matured to a superior level in our league,” Goad said. “And it’s not just one player – we have considerable depth in goal and in all our player positions. SCC has built a winning tradition, and our players are living up to it.”

Everything is falling into place for the No. 1-ranked Cougars at the season’s halfway point. Heading into the second half of the seven-month season, SCC has a strong 6-1-0 record. The team’s sole loss came against powerhouse rival Lindenwood University in November.

The Cougars will kick off the second leg of their schedule with games on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19-20, at Matteson Square Gardens Tri-Plex in St. Peters. SCC will face University of Missouri-St. Louis at 11 a.m. and University of Illinois at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday games start at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. versus Illinois State University and Mizzou, respectively.

“We have a strong scoring artillery this season, led by Gus Maloney, Ryan Covington, and Brent Propp,” Goad said. “We’re strong – our plays are clicking and our players continue to develop.”

The “B” Division team has enjoyed some success of its own in the first half of the season, entering the second half with a 4-2-0 record. The team is still in contention for a strong finish in the standings, trailing Lindenwood University, UM-St. Louis, and Mizzou.

Admission to games is free. Following their Jan. 20 games, both SCC teams will enjoy a break before their next round of games Feb. 9-10.
