SCC COUGAR BASEBALL TEAM EARNS
SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD, ACADEMIC HONORS
Men’s baseball team is class act both on and off the field

For the second consecutive season, the St. Charles Community College men’s baseball team was awarded the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference’s Sportsmanship Award.

The SCC Cougars were selected by conference coaches for demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout the entire 2007-08 season. The team finished second in the conference for the season with a 22-18 overall record.

“The players all conducted themselves with class,” said Chris Gober, Cougar head baseball coach. “They showed respect for each other and respect for the opposing teams. None of our players were ever thrown out of a game. Earning this honor is a streak for us now, and we are all very proud.”

The Cougar baseball team also is proud of its two players named Academic All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association. SCC catcher Josh Farley earned Distinguished Academic All-American honors, which requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.80-4.00. SCC pitcher D.J. Politte garnered Academic All-American honors, which requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.60-3.79. In addition to GPA, sophomore players must earn 45 credit hours to be considered by NJCAA for the award.

This fall, Farley, of New Bloomfield, Mo., will transfer to play at Kansas State University. Politte, of Potosi, Mo., will play at Lindenwood University.

Eleven SCC baseball players will transfer to four-year college teams in the fall. In addition to Farley and Politte, the following team members will move on: Ryan Carbah, of Belton, Mo., Zach Kinkeade, of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Dominic Marchesi, of Bridgeton, Mo., will attend Missouri Western State University; Jeff DeKalb, of Wentzville, Mo., will attend Murray State University in Kentucky; Matt Macke, of St. Peters, Mo., will attend University of Missouri-St. Louis; Eric Mitchell, of St. Charles, Mo., will attend Northwest Missouri State University; Trenton Sanders, of Flossmore, Ill., will attend Texas Southern University; Trevor Zugmaier, of Barnhart, Mo., will attend the University of West Alabama; and Jeremy Clubb, of St. Charles, will attend Missouri University of Science and Technology.
