NEWS STORY FORMAT

PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBIT AT SCC WILL ENHANCE
UPCOMING THEATER PRODUCTION

The Center Stage Theatre of St. Charles Community College will present the play “Black Elk Speaks” at 8 p.m. March 5-8 and 2 p.m. March 9 in the theater of the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building.  A related photographic exhibit and visual enhancement of the play, “Visions of Black Elk,” will be on display from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. in the Annex Gallery of the same building during the run of the show.

“Black Elk Speaks,” based on John Neihardt’s 1932 biography, recounts the history of the American Indian from Columbus to the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890.

“Visions of Black Elk” features photographs of Badlands National Park and Ridge Ogala Sioux Indian reservation taken in the spring of 2007 by St. Louis photographer Chris Brewington. Brewington spent two weeks camping and traveling in the Badlands, documenting the people, wildlife, and landscapes.  His images showcase locations such as the site of the Wounded Knee massacre, creating a visual reference for the historic setting of “Black Elk Speaks.”

An opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the Annex Gallery.  The SCC campus is located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville.  For more information regarding “Visions of Black Elk,” contact Brewington at 314-647-9088.  For questions about “Black Elk Speaks” and other related events, contact Hal Berry at 636-922-8261.
