SCC ADDS NEW GRAPHIC DESIGN CLASSES
Increased Demand Felt for Apple-Based Design Classes
Computer and electronics industry analysts predict that Apple computers will continue to populate homes and small businesses at an increasing rate. To help local residents and businesses keep in step, St. Charles Community College is increasing its lineup of graphic design classes offered during the spring semester, which begins Jan. 19.
All graphic design classes at SCC are taught on the Apple Macintosh platform.
“Since the launch of Mac OS X Tiger and Apple’s partnership with Intel, Apple has gained record PC sales,” said industry analyst Yedda Chew of Access Markets International, a firm based out of New York City. “With the recent launch of Mac OS X Leopard, Apple may well attract a new wave of users, especially among Windows PC users who had been taking a wait-and-see attitude about Mac OS X Tiger.”
Jordan Mogerman, associate professor of graphic design at SCC agrees.
“We’ve seen a jump lately in the interest our students have in Mac products, and our beginning classes are increasing because of it,” Mogerman said. “It’s not just Apple’s advertising. People are talking – they want to know about Macs because of their growing reputation and because the Mac is overwhelmingly the platform of choice in creative fields.”
To help accommodate students, SCC will offer eight graphic design classes in the spring, including new evening classes in Macintosh Basics and Page Layout.

– ART 190-01 Macintosh Basics, 10-11:50 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays;

– ART 190-80 Macintosh Basics, 7-8:50 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
