AMAZING SCC PUMPKINFEST CELEBRATES THE SEASON
The first-ever Amazing SCC Pumpkinfest on Saturday, Oct. 6, drew more than 1,000 visitors
to the St. Charles Community College campus for an afternoon of fall activities for children and families – all staged around the glorious pumpkin.
There was pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting, pumpkin tossing, and pumpkin bowling open to all ages of participants. There was a petting zoo, amazing child acrobats, musicians, and a visit with Fredbird®. There were hands-on arts and crafts projects and friendly St. Louis Zoo critters that amazingly change their bodies to adapt to the changing season.
Adults got to “test drive” amazing Segway human transporters from Glide St. Louis, and area residents earned special prizes for baking some amazingly tasty and unique pumpkin dishes.
“This new college festival, created to herald the fall season, was a special opportunity for children and families to enjoy quality time together,” said Edie Kirk, executive director of the St. Charles Community College Foundation. “There was no frost on the pumpkins, however, as fall temperatures amazingly climbed towards 90 degrees! We were expecting a chill in the air, but, of course, the weather is unpredictable.”
The Amazing SCC Pumpkinfest was presented by the SCC Foundation, with support from corporate partner Emerson. College student clubs, alumni, and community volunteers organized and presented activities for children. Entertainment included the Cardinal’s Fredbird®, Mr. Saxophone, and the St. Louis Arch Acrobats, a children’s troupe affiliated with the City Museum.
