COLLEGE PUMPKINFEST YIELDS WINNING RECIPES

Their amazingly tasty and amazingly unique pumpkin dishes earned area residents special prizes at the St. Charles Community College “Amazing Pumpkinfest” held on Saturday, Oct. 6, on the SCC campus.

The first-ever event drew more than 1,000 visitors for an afternoon of activities for children and families staged around the glorious pumpkin. There was pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting, pumpkin tossing, and pumpkin bowling activities open to all ages of participants. There was a petting zoo, child acrobats, musicians, craft projects, and a visit with Fredbird®.

Pumpkins again took center stage in a featured activity to test culinary skills. Prizes were awarded to creators of “Best Pumpkin Pie in the World” and “Most Unusual/Delicious Pumpkin Dish.” Prizes included a $50 gift certificate to Schnucks for first place; $25 certificate for second place; $10 certificate for third place.

3rd Place: Ellen Hanff of O’Fallon, Ellen’s Pumpkin Ale Cheddar Biscuits

“We had some amazing cooks who prepared some amazingly good treats; the judges told us it was difficult to decide on winners,” said Edie Kirk, executive director of the St. Charles Community College Foundation, sponsor of the Pumpkinfest event. Kirk said the recipes would soon be placed on the Amazing Pumpkinfest Web site at http://www.stchas.edu/events/foundation/pumpkinfest.shtml.
