NEWS STORY FORMAT
THE AMAZING SCC PUMPKINFEST IS SET FOR OCT. 6
It’s a child’s dream come true on a cool autumn day! Young acrobats, a musical pied piper, visits with Fredbird®, a petting zoo, and a chance for kids to make their own trick-or-treat bags are just a few of the activities rounding out the Amazing SCC Pumpkinfest scheduled for 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, on the St. Charles Community College campus.
This one-of-a-kind event for children and adults alike is free and open to the public. It will be staged both inside and outside the Daniel J. Conoyer Social Sciences Building on the Yellow Parking Lot, accessible from the Southwest campus entrance off Cottleville Parkway.
Special guests at the Pumpkinfest include the Cardinal’s Fredbird®, who will be greeting children from 1-2 p.m. Experiences include hands-on arts and crafts projects, a petting zoo, and a visit from friendly St. Louis Zoo critters that amazingly change their bodies to adapt to the changing season.
Other Amazing Pumpkinfest sights and sounds feature Mr. Saxophone, who will sing and dance his way into children’s hearts, and the St. Louis Arch Acrobats, a children’s troupe affiliated with the City Museum.
“There will be so much for children to do, they won’t know what to do first,” said Edie Kirk, executive director of foundation and alumni relations. “The west end of the SCC campus will be buzzing as St. Charles County gears up for fall.”
Pumpkins – a symbol of the season – will take center stage at this first-ever event. Pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting, pumpkin tossing, and pumpkin bowling activities are open to all ages of participants.
A special activity for adults will test culinary skills. Prizes will be awarded to creators of “Best Pumpkin Pie in the World” and “Most Unusual/Delicious Pumpkin Dish.” The deadline to enter either contest is Sept. 25. Entry forms are available online at www.stchas.edu/events/foundation/pumpkinfest.shtml.
Adults can also “test drive” Segway human transporters from Glide St. Louis. “Segways are used at many parks and businesses around the country. We think people will enjoy the chance to drive one,” Kirk said.
The Amazing SCC Pumpkinfest is presented by the St. Charles Community College Foundation.
