Editor’s note: This is an interesting take on beginning of school year for our college nursing students....

BEGINNING WITH THE END IN MIND. Second-year SCC nursing student Lindsey Joyce, of Dardenne Prairie, helps new SCC nursing student Angela Huffman, of O’Fallon, don her nursing cap for a photo on the first day of orientation at St. Charles Community College. Huffman was one of 80 nursing students who began their two-year journey in associate degree nursing program (RN) on Friday, Aug. 17. To inspire the students toward their goals, nursing faculty members took photos of the new crop of students in their nursing caps. “It is a challenging program,” said Marilyn Miller, associate professor of nursing, “This orientation will help our students manage the busy life and rigorous program that’s ahead of them as nursing students. And we want to encourage them from day one to see themselves as professional nurses.”
