SCC YOUNG PEOPLE’S THEATRE TO OFFER CLASSES THIS JUNE
The St. Charles Community College Young People’s
Theatre is offering students a chance to spend part of their summer vacation
up on stage, by enrolling in a theater workshop course at SCC this June.
ATC-300-40 and ATC-300-41, Intro
Theater Workshop I, is an introductory class for theater students
ages eight and up. The class includes definitions of stage and
theater areas, basic acting and diction exercises, stage movement, and
auditioning techniques. ATC-300-40 takes place from
6-7:30 p.m. Mondays, June 4-25, and ATC-300-41 is from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays,
June 6-27. Course registration is $32.
ATC-303-40, Into Theater
Workshop II, is an advanced workshop for students who have completed
the introductory/beginning workshop. The course includes additional
acting techniques, elements of creating characters, and voice projection. The
class is from 7:30-9 p.m. Mondays,
June 4-25. Registration is $32.
ATC-308-40, Intermediate
Theater Concepts, consists of detailed work in stage direction,
body confidence, diction and vocal performance studies, and makeup expertise. Students
must be at least 11 years of age to enroll or receive prior permission
from the director. The class meets from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June
5-26. Registration is $32.
ATC-309-40, Advanced
Theater Concepts, is a continuation of detailed scene work with
an emphasis on script analysis and character preparation prior to acting. Students
will choose from an assortment of very dramatic, intense scenes. They
will block each scene and run mock auditions with other students. The
course’s emphasis will be on learning acting techniques through
the experience of directing. Students must be at least 14 years
of age or in eighth grade to register. Classes meet from 7:30-9
p.m. Tuesdays, June 5-26. Registration is $32.
In ATC-155-40, Character
Development I, students will concentrate on the different methods
for developing a character on stage. Various games and skits in
pantomime and improvisation will be used. Students must at least
be in eighth grade to register. The class will meet from 6-9 p.m.
Wednesdays, June 6-27. Registration is $58.
ATC-305-40, Play Reading/Scene
Acting I, is designed for serious young actors. The course
concentrates on the development of specific scenes with an emphasis on
characterization and attention to voice and body language. Students
will be taught the essentials of developing a scene in reference to the
other actors. The class will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursdays, June
7-28. Registration is $32.
ATC-306-40, Play Reading/Scene
Acting II, concentrates on developing characterization for specific
scenes. A variety of scene material will be used. Students
must be at least 12 years of age to register. Classes will meet
from 7:30-9 p.m. Thursdays, June 7-28. Registration is $32.
ATC-311-40, Storytelling,
will provide students, ages 10 and up, with an overview of storytelling
techniques. The techniques covered will include how to choose
and prepare material, how to use characterization and costuming, proper
vocal technique, and incorporation of acting strategies to bring the
story to life. The class will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays,
June 6-27. Registration is $32.
