SCC TO PRESENT HISTORY THEATRE FESTIVAL MAY 15-20College aims to bring historical biography to the stage with educational event

St. Charles Community College will hit the stage this May with an innovative approach to learning about historical figures and events with the History Theatre Festival, Tuesday-Sunday,
May 15-20.

The History Theatre Festival is an effort to turn biography into live drama, highlighting events, issues, and historical figures of the past.  The festival includes historical theater performances in addition to film, music, and dance sessions.

William Anderson, the state historian for Michigan, will give a keynote speech at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 17, when he presents a lecture entitled “The Mind of the Soldier,” a look at the volunteer soldier during the Civil War.  Anderson’s presentation will focus on the soldier’s motivation to serve, their correspondence, relationships with women and the enemy, their attitudes about the great issues of the war, and the ultimate sacrifice so many made.  Thursday night will also be part of an evening-long salute to veterans and their families.  Admission to Anderson’s presentation and the “Mister Lincoln” performance immediately following it will be free for all veterans and their families.
