DOUG TALLEY QUARTET TO PERFORM AT SCC ON APRIL 1
Event rescheduled after Jan. 21 cancellation

    The Doug Talley Quartet will bring its stimulating brand of jazz to St. Charles Community College when it performs as a part of the college’s spring Encore Concert Artist Series at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 1, in the theater of the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building.  The quartet was originally scheduled to perform on Sunday, Jan. 21, but the show was postponed due to inclement weather.

    Performing together since 1995, the Kansas City based Doug Talley Quartet has been described by jazz experts as a group that “speaks the language of jazz as well as it can be spoken.”  Focusing on breathing life into jazz standards as well as creating original music with colorful harmonies and strong rhythms, the group strives to bring classical American music into the 21st
century.

    The quartet consists of Doug Talley, saxophone; Wayne Hawkins, piano; Tim Brewer, bass; and Keith Kavanaugh, drums.

    Talley is a saxophone artist and clinician, appearing at numerous high schools and colleges including Kansas State, Central Missouri State, and Northwest Missouri State universities.  He was a faculty member and clinician at the 2003 International Association for Jazz Education Teacher’s Training Institute and has been a faculty member of the Great Plains Jazz Camp since 1998.

    This concert is part of SCC’s Encore Concert Artist Series that is co-sponsored by the SCC Student Activities Office, the SCC Music Department, and the SCC Foundation.
