Reporting Suspected Child Abuse |

College instructors, administrators, and
other employees with responsibility for direct interaction
with a child, are considered to be mandatory reporters of
suspected child abuse. This means that they have a legal
and ethical duty to report child abuse to state authorities.
(A child is defined as any person under 18 years of age.)

If an instructor, administrator, or other employee
who is a mandatory reporter has reasonable cause to suspect
that a child has been or may be subjected to abuse, that person
must immediately notify the Child Abuse & Neglect Hotline
at 1-800-392-3738. |

Following a report of abuse, employees have
a duty to cooperate with investigators from the Division of
Family Services and law enforcement authorities. |

Child abuse is defined as any physical injury,
sexual abuse, or emotional abuse inflicted on a child other
than by accidental means by those responsible for the child’s
care, custody, or control. |
