Where do I go first? Your first step is to fill out an application, turn it in, and take the assessment tests. Then check out the New Student Checklist, for step by step instructions. Is an academic counselor like a guidance counselor? An academic counselor can guide you with academic and career counseling, as well as information about transferability of credits. The academic counselors do not provide personal counseling. SCC will provide opportunities for short-term personal counseling beginning in fall 2006. Inquire in the Student Development Office (1204 ADM) for more information. What if I don’t like my assessment score? There are separate appeal procedures for English, math, and reading. Check out the Assessment Center Page for specific details. What is there to do on campus? A LOT! SCC offers a variety of student activities. There are 19 clubs and organizations on campus, as well as music performances, theater productions, art exhibitions, lunch-time seminars, and outdoor BBQs! Watch bulletin boards and the Student Activities page for updates and more information. Are there sports teams I can watch? Yes! SCC is proud to have two NJCAA teams baseball and softball. Games are played here on campus and free for students. We also have two club sport teams, roller hockey and soccer. Roller hockey plays at Matteson Square Gardens in St. Peters, and soccer plays home games at SCC. I don’t have a computer at home. Does SCC offer free use of computers? Students can use computers at the ACE Center, library, and the student activities office. Printers are available in the ACE Center and the library. Some programs have specific labs for students to use; your instructors will tell you about these. |
