Step-By-Step Guide to the Health Information Technology Admissions Process

  1. Apply to the college in the Administration Building 1204 or on-line.
  2. Take the assessment test for English, Reading , and Math placement if you do not have college English or Math credit. Must test into ENG 101 or complete ENG 096, and test into MAT 121 or complete MAT 098. These tests are free in the Assessment Center , ADM 1206.
  3. Send for official transcripts of all colleges attended and request that they be evaluated by filling out the Credit Evaluation Form.
  4. Have official high school transcripts or GED scores sent to Admissions, ADM 1113. If you do not have a high school diploma or a GED certificate, you must take and pass the GED test.
  5. Formulate an educational plan and discuss the HIT requirements with a Career-technical counselor in Room 1204 ADM. Please call (636) 922-8246 or 922-8241 to schedule and appointment.
  6. When you are ready to take ENG 101, MAT 098 and CPT 103, Microcomputer Applications, you can apply to the HIT program with a Career-Technical Counselor.
  7. Obtain and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or greater on a minimum of six college credit hours. Developmental courses do not count towards this total.
  8. Acceptance into the HIT program is granted when:
    1. Space is available. Twenty-five students are accepted each fall on a first come first served basis.
    2. ENG 101, MAT 098, and CPT 103 are ready to be taken or are completed.
    3. High school transcripts or GED scores are on file.
    4. Six hours of college credit is complete with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. If less than 6 credit hours have been attempted the High School transcript or GED is required.
    5. If a student has met these requirements and the class is full, the student can request to be placed on the alternate list for that year. These students will replace those who can not get started from the original 25 in the order in which they are placed onto the alternate list.
    6. If a student does not get into the HIT program for that year they must reapply to be considered for the following year.
