Dual Enrollment
High school students can take college-level
credit classes at SCC, or at some high schools
and get a head start on meeting college requirements. Dual enrollment
is an excellent way to explore topics that a high school may not
be able to offer.
- Is there a special application form?
- In addition to the SCC
Application for Admission, you must
complete a Dual
Enrollment form.
- I am younger than 16. Can I still take college
classes?
- First, you must take the complete Academic Skills Assessment
(comprised of three tests). You will also have to complete
the Application for Special Admission, which requires a letter
of recommendation from your principal, as well as their signature
and a parent’s signature. You will need to contact
the director of student development who will review your placement
scores to determine if you placed into college-level coursework. If
you are approved to enroll, the director of student development
will contact faculty to seek permission for enrollment
into specific courses.
- What is the maximum number of credit hours I can take?
- If you are currently taking high school coursework, you are
limited to 6 credit hours at SCC.
- Can I be involved in clubs?
- Yes. Travel is restricted for club members under 18, but they
are allowed to be involved in every other aspect of clubs.
- What requirements must I meet to be eligible for dual
enrollment?
- Must have the written permission of your high school counselor
or principal.
- Have at least a 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) high school grade point
average. (Some high school districts require a higher GPA to
participate.)
- Students enrolled in 6 credit hours or in math or English
courses are required to complete the SCC assessment.
- The signature of an SCC counselor for registration your first
semester in dual enrollment.
- Will the credits I earn at SCC transfer to another college?
- The credits that high school students earn will be permanently
recorded on an SCC transcript and may be used to fulfill degree
requirements at SCC or the transfer institution of choice after
graduation from high school.
- Is there a special application form that I need to complete?
- Dual enrollment
forms are available from high school counselors and from
the Student Development Office, Room 1204 Administration Building.
A new dual enrollment application should be completed each
semester.
