Faculty Expectations

What will faculty members expect from me?

Faculty members suggest following these simple steps to help you succeed as a student here:

Show up for class.  A large part of student success comes from attending your classes.  Instructors like it when their students are punctual and cell phones are turned off.  Common courtesy goes a long way.

Listen!  Did you know that the majority of our day-to-day communication time is spent listening?  Most people listen with only a 25% retention rate.  That is, nearly 75% of what we listen to is lot in a 24-hour period.  Listening is our #1 communication activity, but our least developed skill.

Attitude.  Robert Frost once noted that "always fall in with what you're asked to accept.  Take what is given, and make it over your way.  My aim in life, has always been to hold my own with whatever's going.  Not against:  with.  A positive attitude toward your classes and coursework will enable you to succeed.

Participate.  While showing up for class is crucial, another key component is to actively participate in discussions and activities.  Don't be a seat warmer.  You will learn more by being active.
