How do I know what courses to take?

Once your assessment testing is completed, make an appointment with an academic counselor. An academic counselor will help you select the courses you need to get started and help you register. Freshmen preparing for entrance during the fall semester will be directed to a Smart Start registration session (prior to July 4th).

What kinds of degrees are offered?

There are a wide variety of programs for students who wish to:

  • transfer to a four-year college.
  • enter the workforce directly after their two-year program of study.
  • earn a certificate of achievement.

Are there basic courses every student must take?

Students planning to attend a four-year institution or to enter the workforce immediately following their two years at SCC must complete a foundation of basic coursework (General Education Requirements) prior to concentrating on their chosen field of study.

This foundation serves to create a well-rounded student and may also help students decide which field they want to enter.

How do I know what classes I need to take for the degree I want to pursue?

Whether you are planning to transfer to another college, to enter the workforce after graduation, or to earn a certificate, there are courses you will be required to take based on the major you choose.

SCC's academic counselors can provide you with a list of the required courses and will help you plan your course of study and SCC degree requirements.

See our Web pages for more information about the many degrees and certificates offered at SCC.
