The Department of Veteran Affairs is currently processing a record number of education benefit claims. They have experienced some backlog and some students' benefits may be delayed. If you have registered for spring 2013 courses, submit your Certification Request form as soon as possible. This will provide the VA with more time to process your claim and, hopefully, reduce a significant delay.

Advance Payment is now available for students receiving education benefits through VRAP. Students receiving education benefits under chapters 30, 35 and 1606 may also request advance payment. An advanced payment pays the monthly benefit for the first and second month to the student. To receive advance payment, complete the request form located in ADM 1113 or 1204. To be eligible for advance payment you must:
- request advance pay
- if there is more than 30 days between terms and break pay won't be paid
- enrolled at least half-time
- request is received by the VA at least 30 days, but not more than 120 days, before the enrollment period

During Veterans Week, SVO will be showing High Ground at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the SSB Auditorium. The movie will be shown free of charge to the public. Donations will benefit SVO.
High Ground is an encouraging movie about courage and strength in the aftermath of war. It's a feature-length documentary about 11 wounded warriors and one Gold and Blue Star mother who climb Mt. Lobouche in the Himalayas. While recounting their wartime experiences, the veterans find teamwork, friendship and healing on the journey.
Invite your family and friends to join!
