The college will be closed Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day. No classes will be held and all offices will be closed.

The Café will be closed until August. Beginning May 21, summer hours for the Plaza Bistro will be 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The SCC Bookstore will maintain its regular business hours through Saturday, June 9. Regular hours are:

  • 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday
  • 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday
  • 8 a.m.-noon Saturday
  • Closed Sundays

Bookstore summer hours will begin Monday, June 11. Summer hours are: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday; closed Friday-Sunday. Regular store hours will resume Monday, July 23.

In 2011, the SCC Foundation received an additional $1,019.87 to award in scholarships and grants, thanks to the Schnucks Escrip program. Fred Miller, author of “No Sweat Public Speaking!” will present “The Fear of Public Speaking: Why? And Nuggets to Lessen It With – No Sweat!” 7:30-9 a.m., Friday, June 1, in the Private Dining Room of the Student Center. This event is part of the SCC Leadership & Strategy Speaker Series. The event is free, but pre-registration on the St. Charles Chamber website is required by midnight on May 31.

The SCC Living Green Expo will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at SCC. There will be activities and prizes for the whole family, including free electronics recycling, art projects, free tree seedlings, and appearances by "EVie," an electric truck from the St. Louis Science Center, and the 2012 Chevy Volt, as well as other hybrid vehicles. There will also be a 25th anniversary commemorative tree planting ceremony at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit stchas.edu/livinggreen.

Join SCC in the closing celebration for its 25th anniversary at the Silver Social from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, June 22, in the SSB auditorium. The event is free and exclusively for SCC faculty and staff. Light dinner, hors d'oeuvres and mocktails will be provided, and there will also be music and games. All attendees are required to get tickets and RSVP online by Thursday, June 7. Employees will be required to enter their five-digit employee ID number in order to RSVP for the event. Contact Peggy Schreiner at x8276 for more information.

The last day to change from audit to credit for 12/SU0 classes is Thursday, May 24.

All summer 2012 tuition and fees are due by 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 29.

Summer 2012 registration will close temporarily on Wednesday, May 30, then reopen for in-person registration on Thursday, May 31. The last day to register for summer 2012 classes is Friday, June 1.

Summer 2012 credit classes begin Monday, June 4.

The last day to drop a 12/SU0 course and receive a W is Wednesday, June 6.

The last day to apply for August 2012 graduation is Friday, June 8.

SCC will host a free Returning Learners Workshop from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 8, in ADM 1204. The workshop explores the educational opportunities that are available to prepare a returning learner (non-traditional student) for a new career or a lifestyle change he or she is facing. To register, call x8241 or x8248. Successful completion of the workshop will fulfill the requirement of the College Success Seminar (COL-101).

Kasey McKee, SCC associate vice president for foundation and alumni relations, received the 2012 Athena Emerging Young Professionals Award at the Athena Leadership Foundation of St. Charles County on May 2 at the Columns Banquet Center in St. Charles. Kasey was one of three Emerging Young Professionals in Leadership named, a new category in this year’s 25th anniversary celebration of the Athena Leadership Foundation. Athena Leadership Award recipients have attained the highest level of excellence in their fields of endeavor, have helped others reach their fullest potential and who have given generously to their community in a meaningful way.

Beth Finders, SCC professor of psychology, and Stacy Runion, CDC lead teacher, each received a 2012 ABLE Excellence in Education award. Beth won for the post-secondary category, and Stacy won for the pre-K category. They were selected as educators who inspire students to reach their full potential and go above and beyond in the classroom, as well as serve as a positive role model to fellow teachers, students and the community.

­The SCC Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Department received 97 out of 100 points on the February 2012 five-year program evaluation from the State AEL Office and have been designated a Missouri “Star” AEL Program.

Congratulations to Kayla Ohmes, SCC assessment specialist, who recently completed her master's in educational administration at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. 

­SCC library assistants Ben Englert and Erica Millspaugh are both graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia and will be receiving master’s degrees in Library Science Information Systems.

Ryan Buenemann, SCC Help Desk analyst, will be graduating from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a bachelor’s degree in information systems and business administration. He is minoring in transportation studies with an emphasis in logistical operations.
