Sign up for SCC’s Text Message Emergency Alert System for updates on emergencies, warnings, campus shutdowns and weather-related closings. Even if you have registered for this service before, the system is updated once a year and clears out everyone who has registered in the past. Once you sign up, you will remain active in the system until July 20, 2012. After July 20, you will have to re-register. Sign up here: stchas.edu/text.

David Kirton will perform a free concert at SCC at noon Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Plaza Bistro. Kirton is a vibrant/modern roots reggae singer from Barbados whose music is a unique hybrid of rock, pop and reggae. This event is part of Black History Month. SCC is partnering with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to offer free tax preparation assistance from 6:30-9 p.m. every Monday beginning Feb. 20 through April 2 in CC 106. The service will be offered to those with low- to moderate-income levels. Call x8228 for eligibility and additional information. To schedule an appointment, call x8419.

Projections International Film Series will present “Throw Down Your Heart” (2008), an African film in English, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the SSB Auditorium. The film follows well-known banjo player Bela Fleck on his travels to Africa, where he learns about the instrument’s origins. This film is unrated. This event is part of Black History Month. Contact Andrea Compton for more information.

Center Stage Theatre will present “Harvey,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, Feb. 29-March 1,
8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, March 2-3, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in the FAB theater.

The 2011-12 Staff Training and Education Program (STEP) schedule is now available online. Faculty and staff who are interested in joining a recreational co-ed softball team this spring should contact Todd Galbierz at x8359. The team will play doubleheaders on Thursday nights at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex in O’Fallon. The league begins on March 29 and the game times are between 6:30-10:30 pm. The estimated cost per player is $40, depending on the number of people on the team.

The last day to change from credit to audit or audit to credit for 12SP/3 classes is Thursday,
Feb. 23.

The SCC Foundation and Board of Trustees Scholarship Program will award nearly $250,000 in scholarships to SCC students for the 2012-13 school year. Scholarship packets are available at www.stchas.edu/scholarships. Packets are due by 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012.
