In order to prepare for this year’s winter season, sign up for SCC’s Text Message Emergency Alert System for updates on emergencies, warnings, campus shutdowns and weather-related closings. Even if you have registered for this service before, the system is updated once a year and clears out everyone who has registered in the past. Once you sign up, you will remain active in the system until July 20, 2012. After July 20, you will have to re-register. Sign up here: stchas.edu/text.

SCC Center Stage Theatre will hold open auditions for the upcoming production of “Harvey,” at
1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, in Room 108 of the FAB theater.

Musician Hana Pestle will perform a free lunchtime concert at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, in the Café/Bookstore. Over the past few years, Hana has toured with Blues Traveler, Live, Collective Soul and Sister Hazel. For more information, contact Mandi Smith at x8469.

Projections International Film Series will host a free showing of "The Lives of Others" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25. Hosted by Knut Tarnowski, SCC adjunct professor of foreign language, "The Lives of Others" is a German film with English subtitles about a secret police agent who conducts surveillance on a writer and his lover and becomes increasingly absorbed by their lives. Comedy Night at SCC will feature NBC’s Stand-Up for Diversity comedians Mal Hall, Sam Comroe and Tony Baker at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the FAB theater. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The show is rated PG-13. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for SCC students with valid ID. The SCC Photography Invitational will be on display Jan. 30-March 4 in the FAB gallery. The invitational will be shown in conjunction with the UMSL Student Photography Exhibition. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, contact Christine Holtz.

The SCC Foundation awards nearly $65,000 in scholarships to SCC students every year. Scholarship packets for the 2012-13 school year are available at www.stchas.edu/scholarships. Packets are due by 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012.
