The college will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, in honor of Labor Day. No classes will be held and all offices will be closed. All College Day is Tuesday, Sept. 6, and no classes will be held. The SCC Alpha Xi Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa will be collecting old and used textbooks for Books For Africa in four collection bins around the SCC campus from now until Sept. 13. Books that are not reusable as textbooks will be sold and the money will be used to provide books for children in Africa, and those that cannot be sold will be recycled. The collection bins are located in the SSB, CC, ADM and HUM. The Economic Development Center of St. Charles County/Partners for Progress, of which SCC is a member, is hosting the MO' Cowbell Half Marathon at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, in Frontier Park in St. Charles. The cost is $50 if registered by Sept. 1 or $60 by Sept. 25. Register online today. SCC will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit Nov. 7-9, 2011, by a team representing The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Commission invites the public to submit comments regarding SCC that are about substantive matters related to the quality of the institution or its academic programs. Center Stage Theatre is hosting auditions for its first production, "Bus Stop," at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 22-23, in the FAB theater. The Young People's Theatre is hosting auditions for its production of "Coney Island of Dr. Moreau" at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 in the FAB theater. SCC will host an Art Invitational featuring eight local artists Aug. 29-Sept. 23 in the FAB gallery. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information contact Christine Holtz. SCC Student Activities will host Fall Fun Blitz from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, Sept. 7-8, on the Campus Plaza. This two-day event is free and open to students, faculty and staff. There will be free food, live music by Rachel Brown and her band, as well as free giveaways and student club and organization informational booths. There will also be free pizza beginning at 5:30 p.m. both nights for evening students. |
