Technology General Information


The Technology, Research, and Planning Department of St. Charles Community College provides support and service to all technology on campus. Our services are available to all faculty, staff, and students.

The department reports to the Vice President of Technology, Research, and Planning Barbara Keim, 636-922-8573.

Academic Computing

Academic Computing provides a wide variety of technology-based services and support to students, faculty and staff to meet classroom requirements. The Academic Computing area is responsible for providing the following support to all academic classrooms and student labs:

Telecommunication Services provides telephone and voicemail support for faculty and staff. Telecommunication Services also assists faculty and staff using Datatel, the administrative software of the college.

Help Desk Services
and PC Operations

The Help Desk and PC Operations are responsible for pre-purchase and post-purchase support of approved desktop computer hardware and software. Help Desk and PC Operations provides hardware and software testing and installation, helps students, faculty, and staff with SCC Connection, iConnect, wireless, and WebCT login services.

Administrative Software
IT maintains an administrative software package called Colleague, which was developed by Datatel, Inc. Colleague is currently installed in over 400 universities and colleges throughout the U.S. and U.S. territories and is also currently in use by nine Missouri secondary schools, both public and private. Listed below are features of Colleague currently in use by departments of the college:

Admissions/Records/Registration/Research
Through the Admissions module, Registration module, and internally created processes, this department has the ability to:

  • Admit students and capture data about previous institutions attended.
  • Register students for classes in multiple terms.
  • Grade students for classes attended and create transcripts of those grades.
  • Track student academic progress.
  • Report student enrollments to state and federal agencies.
  • Produce statistical reports on student enrollments and trends.
  • Audit student transcripts for graduation requirements.

Business Office
Through the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, General Ledger, Purchasing modules, and internally created processes, the Business Office has the ability to:

  • Track student accounts receivable.
  • Track all payments to the college.
  • Issue cash receipts.
  • Issue purchase orders for goods and services.
  • Track accounts payable.
  • Issue checks for payment of accounts payable.
  • Establish and track budgets.
  • Track inventory and fixed assets.
  • Ceridian software is used to process the payroll.

Bookstore
Through the Registration, Purchasing modules, and internally created processes, the Bookstore has the ability to:

  • View student registration records.
  • Monitor course enrollments to ensure that textbooks will be available.
  • Enter purchase orders for textbooks and supplies.

Counseling and Advisement
Through the Registration module and internally created processes, Counseling and Advisement has the ability to:

  • View student academic records while advising them about their class enrollments.
  • View closed and canceled classes while advising students about their class enrollments.

Financial Assistance
The Financial Aid system interfaces with the Admissions, Registration, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger modules. This software and internally created processes give the Financial Assistance office the ability to:

  • View student academic records for academic progress.
  • View student charges and outstanding balances.
  • Maintain financial aid records for state and federal reporting.
  • Allocate and dispense local, state, and federal financial assistance.
  • Monitor financial assistance budgets.

Academic and Student Affairs
Through the Registration, Continuing Education, Purchasing, General Ledger modules, and internally created processes, Academic and Student Affairs has the ability to:

  • Schedule and monitor class offerings.
  • Print full-time and part-time faculty contracts.
  • Print faculty and class statistical reports for internal use and state reporting.
