Step by step directions to configure your Windows XP wireless connection:
- If you have wireless card specific software set it to use
Windows to manage the wireless connection.
- Right click on the
wireless icon in the lower right corner of your screen (sytem
tray) by the clock. A menu will pop up.
- Select "Use
Windows to manage Wi-Fi". If
this option does not appear your card is probably
already set to use Windows.

- To go to Network Connection Properties:
- Right click the Windows
Wireless Connection icon in the system tray.
- Select "Open Network Connections".

- We will now set the Wireless Connection properties.
- Right click Wireless
Network Connection in the Network Connections window.
- Select Properties to bring up the Windows Network Connection
Properties window.
- Click the Wireless Networks tab.

- Click the "Add..." button. You will see the Wireless network
properties window appear.

- Type SCC in the "Network name (SSID):"
- Click on the down arrow next to
Network Authentication and select "WPA".

- Click on the Authentication Tab.
- Click the down arrow next to the the "EAP type:" and select "Protected
EAP (PEAP)" in
the drop down box.
- Make sure that there are no checkmarks in either of the authenticate
boxes.
- Click the "Properties"
button. You will see the Protected EAP properties window.

- Check "Validate server certificate if it is not already checked.
- Check "Connect
to these servers:"
- Enter the server name "wireless.stchas.edu".
- In the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities:" box scroll
down to and place a check next to "Thawte
Server CA".
- Check the "Do not prompt
user to authorize new servers or trusted certification authorities." box.
- Check the "Enable
Fast Reconnect" box.
- Click the "Configure..." button. The EAP MSCHAPv2 properties window
will appear.

- Make sure that there is no check
in the box next to "Automatically use my Windows logon name and
password (and domain if any).

Wait for the message "Click here to select a certificate or other credentials
for connection to the network SCC" window to pop up by your clock.
- Click
on the message when it appears. You will be taken to the "Enter Credentials"
window.

- An "Enter Credentials" Dialog window will appear.
- Students:
- Enter your SCC login ID (eg... "ab123456") and Password (eg... "Password1") that you use for WebCT, and SCC Connection.
- Faculty and Staff:
- For the login ID enter your entire Email address (eg... jdoe@stchas.edu) and your Email Password.
- Click "OK".

- Wait for the "Wireless Network Connection is now connected" message
to appear in the lower right corner of your screen. Now you're
all set!
