Connecting to SCC Wireless Network

Step by step directions to configure your Macintosh Airport Card:


  1. Locate the airport icon next to the clock.
    • click on the icon.
    • Select "Open Internet Connect... "

  3. Click the 802.1X tab:
    • If the 802.1X tab is not visible click "File" > "New 802.1X Connection".
    • click the dropdown arrow next to "Configuration".
    • Select "Edit Configuration... "



  4. This is the Configuration menu:
    • Select "SCC" as the Wireless Network.
    • Make sure that "PEAP" is the only Authentication Protocol that is checked, uncheck all the other protocols.
    • Select the "PEAP" protocol click "Configure..." and make sure that the "Outer Identity" for "PEAP" is blank.
    • Click "OK".



  5. Now click the "Connect" button.



  6. A Certificate will appear requesting verification.
    • If the Certificate window disapears before you can use it, go to your search bar and type "keychain", and go to the keychain.
    • Go to Certificates and select the "Thawte Server CA" certificate.
    • click "trust settings" and set "always trust" and skip down to step 9.
    • Click the "Show Certificate" button .



  7. Verifying the Certificate.
    • Make sure that it is the "Thawte Server CA" Certificate from "wireless.stchas.edu".
    • Click the triangle next to "Trust Settings".



  8. Select the dropdown box next to "When using this certificate:"
    • select "Always Trust".



  9. Make sure that the dropdown boxes now show "Always Trust".
    • Click "Continue".



  10. The 802.1X Authentication window will appear:
    • Students:
      • Enter your SCC login ID (eg... "ab123456") and Password (eg... "Password1") that you use for WebCT, and SCC Connection.
    • Faculty and Staff:
      • For the login ID enter your entire Email address (eg... jdoe@stchas.edu) and your Email Password.
    • Click "OK"



  11. The "Status:" in the 802.1X window should change from "idle" to "Connected" as displayed below.



  12. The airport icon by the clock should also turn black instead of grey indicating a connection.
