TOBACCO-FREE CAMPUS
PROCEDURE FOR STUDENT COMPLIANCE
- Effective January 1, 2007, whenever Department of Public
Safety (DPS) officers observe a student who is not complying
with the tobacco-free campus policy, the DPS officer will give
the student a reminder card.
- The officer will ask for an ID from the student and
report the incident to DPS office.
- DPS will record the reminder.
- The second time a student is observed as not complying
with the policy, the DPS officer will give the student a reminder
card.
- The officer will ask for an ID from the student and
report the incident to DPS office.
- DPS will record the second reminder.
- The third time a student is observed as not complying
with the policy, the DPS officer will give the student a reminder
card.
- The officer will ask for an ID from the student,
and report the incident to DPS office.
- The DPS office will mail a citation with a $5 fine to the
student if this is the student's third reminder.
- Transcripts will be withheld until the student has
paid the fine.
- When a student receives a third $5 fine, he or she
will be required to meet with the Vice President for Student
Services.
- DPS will provide the Vice President for Student Services
a list or printout of all violations that triggered the required
meeting.
- The Vice President for Student Services will meet with
the student and will address the issue of repeated violations
of the policy. Possible actions may include, but are
not limited to:
- Provide information and resources that will help
the student comply with the policy.
- Encourage the student to attend a smoking cessation
workshop.
- Place the student on probation.
- Place the student on suspension
