Crime Awareness and Campus Safety Report

Department of Public Safety
St. Charles Community College

Public Safety Department
Members of the Department of Public Safety (DPS) are conservators of the peace on campus. They work with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, and they seek to protect life and property and to preserve a secure campus environment. The Department of Public Safety is located in the Campus Services Building on the northwest corner of the St. Charles Community College property.

You Should Report All Crimes on Campus
All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to report any crime or criminal activity to the Department of Public Safety at 636-922-8545 (on campus, dial 8545). The Department of Public Safety will investigate, or report to the appropriate law enforcement agencies, all incidents of crime or criminal activity on campus. DPS also will cooperate with local police agencies in monitoring any off-campus criminal activity involving recognized student organizations.

DPS Is Here for Your Safety and Assistance
The Department of Public Safety is responsible for safety and security inside and outside the campus buildings. There are telephones located on each end of all parking lots that ring directly into the DPS office. These phones are answered around the clock, seven days a week, by Public Safety personnel. The Department of Public Safety will provide parking lot escort service day or night for anyone concerned about his/her personal safety.

Security and Access
The college campus is open from dawn to dusk. However, college buildings are open only during published working hours. During non-working hours, facilities are monitored by patrol and alarms.

Illegal Substances Prohibited on Campus
Alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, firearms, and dangerous weapons of any type are not permitted on campus. Any person violating the college rules and regulations regarding any of these items is subject to appropriate disciplinary action and/or criminal charges.

Sexual Offenses
Students who have been sexually harassed or victimized in any way are encouraged to report the incident as soon as possible to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (Room 2110 SSB, 636-922-8358), or the Department of Public Safety (636-922-8545).
