Nominations are now being accepted for the 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award. The award will be given to a former student, regardless of the length of his or her enrollment at SCC, who has excelled in his or her profession and has given back to the community. The SCC Catering Services department has a deal with Fortel's Pizza Den that you can take advantage of for your next campus event. Fortel's offers SCC special prices for orders of 10 pizzas or more – only $7 for each single topping pizza and $8 for each veggie or multiple topping pizza. A Business and Social Sciences Career Fair will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the College Center. Juniors and seniors from nine area high schools will attend 20-minute sessions on a variety of topics. For more information, contact Wanda Newmyer at x8334.

The SCC Board of Trustees meetings will now be held at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, beginning Feb. 18, in the SSB 2102 Board Room.

Black History Month features events throughout February. All events will be held in the SSB auditorium unless otherwise noted, and are free and open to the public. Remaining activities include:

  • St. Louis artist Terrell Carter will present a lecture on his artwork at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18. Carter's artwork will be displayed from 4-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, Feb. 18-22, in the SSB Student Lounge.

  • The film The Bicycle Corps: America's Black Army on Wheels will be shown from noon-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26.

St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute's Eating Disorder Program will present an exhibition, Expressions of Eating Disorders, from 6:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Feb. 18-22 in the College Center Rotunda. An opening reception will be held in the same location from noon-12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18. The display contains work from art therapy and writing therapy sessions of patients in the institute. A panel discussion titled Eating (Behavior) Concerns Everyone will be held from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, in the College Center Rotunda.
Panelists include Mary Hall, L.P.C., therapist for Bridgeway Counseling, Brenda Hollrah, SCC physical education/College Center coordinator, and Debra Stein, SCC College Center assistant, PHE adjunct faculty, and personal trainer.

The first SCC baseball game of the season will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, at SCC. The Cougars will play Lincoln Trail. There is also a game at noon Saturday, March 1, in Belleville, Ill., against Southwestern Illinois College. More.

Center Stage Theatre will present Black Elk Speaks at 8 p.m. March 5-8 and at 2 p.m. on March 9.
The play, based on John Neihardt's 1932 biography, recounts the history of the American Indian from Columbus to the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1980. As an introduction to the story of Black Elk, there will be lunchtime learning seminars from 11-11:50 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 25 and 27, in SSB 1102. The seminars will provide additional insight and information on this period in history as it relates to the upcoming production. There will be a student music recital at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 27, in room 120 of the Fine Arts Building. More.

The first SCC softball game of the season will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at SCC. The Cougars will play Lake Land College. More.

The SCC Art Faculty Exhibition will be on display through March 2 in the FAB Gallery.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, contact Brian Smith at x8575. More.

Student Support
 

Show-Me Transfer Talk 102 will be held 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, and 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Student Center Room 205. These workshops teach students tips and tools for a smooth transition to their transfer institution. More.

The Show-Me Transfer Fair
will be held 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the College Center. Past, current, and future SCC students are invited to attend and meet with representatives from more than 20 colleges to which many SCC students transfer. Students are encouraged to bring a record of all completed college courses with them. More.

To recognize National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb. 24-March 1, Student Development, Mental Health Counseling, and Physical Education/College Center will be offering an anonymous online mental health questionnaire available to all students. The questionnaire provides immediate feedback and information on how to get help, if needed. There are also questionnaires available for alcohol and depression concerns.

The last day to drop a Spring (first eight-week) credit class and receive a "W" is Friday, Feb. 22.
