Wanted: Creative writing and photography. Mid Rivers Review, SCC's literary magazine, is accepting submissions of poetry, short fiction, or B/W photography until Jan. 31. Contact Teddy Norris at x8407 for more information. Entry guidelines.

Spring semester faculty inservice will be held Tuesday-Friday, Jan. 15-18.

The SCC Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The college will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Early registration for Double Reed Day continues through Tuesday, Jan. 15. Cost is $25 if registration materials are received by Jan. 15; $35 after Jan. 15. Double Reed Day will be held from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the FAB. To register, contact John Walker at x8538. Registration form.

Auditions for Center Stage Theatre's production of Black Elk Speaks will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, and at 7 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday, Jan. 22-23, in the FAB Theater. Contact Hal Berry at x8261 for more information. Roles to be cast and audition information.

Make a note of upcoming Black History Month events. All events will be held in the SSB auditorium unless otherwise noted. Most activities are free and all are open to the public.

  • Daryl Davis will present Klan-Destine Relationships: A Black Man's Odyssey Into the Ku Klux Klan at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24. Davis will also give a jazz performance at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24. More.

  • Dr. R. Bentley Anderson, of St. Louis University, will give a lecture on his book "Black, White, and Catholic: New Orleans Interracialism, 1947-1956" at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.

  • The film A Class Divided will be shown at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, and at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.

  • An SCC African-American scholarship fundraising event will be held from
    7-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

  • The film The Bicycle Corps: America's Black Army on Wheels will be shown from noon-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Student Support
 

Straights and Gays for Equality (SAGE) will hold a welcome back to school meeting from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, in the CC 102 conference room.

Registration for spring credit classes continues through Monday, Jan. 14, in ADM 1113, with all fees due by 7 p.m. on that day. Students may register Jan. 16-18, and they must pay at the time of registration.

Start dates for spring semester credit classes: Saturday classes begin Jan. 19, and weekday classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 22.

COL 104 Online Information and Internet Research will be offered online this spring as a late-start class beginning Saturday, Feb. 9. Learn more.

Erin Lanham, reference librarian, received the Leadership Award from the St. Louis Metropolitan Area Chapter of the Special Libraries Association at its annual business meeting in November.

Chris Romer, director of purchasing, was recently elected as a board member to the Missouri Association of Public Purchasing (MAPP), a chapter of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, Inc.
