The SCC Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) program has been invited to serve as a pilot site in Missouri for the Student Achievement in Reading (STAR) project. STAR was developed at the request of the U.S. Department of Education and has been implemented in six pilot states. The goal of STAR is to help intermediate readers improve their reading skills. |

A book discussion – “Not on Our Watch” – will be held from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the SC Private Dining Room. Jennifer Bidstrup, of the SCC Student Senate, will lead a discussion of the book, "Not on Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond." Register now for the Family History Workshop to be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in SC 205. The workshop is for beginners as well as experienced genealogists. It will be led by Michael John Neill, a faculty member of the Genealogical Institute of Mid-America at the University of Illinois-Springfield and a nationally known genealogist. The registration fee is $20 for the general public and $10 for SCC students, faculty, and staff. Registration availability cannot be guaranteed after Saturday, Oct. 13. Show-Me Transfer Talk 102 begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, and will be offered again at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in SC 205. These workshops will help SCC students get on the right track to a successful transfer experience. More. The Social Science Society is asking SCC students, faculty, and staff to participate in their fundraiser at Chevys Fresh Mex restaurant on Highway K in O’Fallon, from 4-10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10. Chevys will donate 20% of the proceeds, which will help support multicultural programs at SCC. Contact Vicky Herbel at x8666 for flyers to be presented to Chevys when placing your food order. Jeremy Gibbs, adjunct professor of mathematics, was recently named president of the Missouri Academic Coaches Association. The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations recently awarded four Medallions (two gold, one silver, and one bronze) to the SCC Marketing and Communications Department. Ben Munson received a gold Medallion for “Peek -a- Boo,” a photograph taken at the CDC, and a silver Medallion for the new SCC Cougar logo; Jim Nelson received a bronze Medallion for the 2007 10K logo; and Timothy Wilson, SCC alum, received a gold Medallion for the Phase 4 Dedication poster.Employee birthdays Missed a previous issue of e-Outlook?
