College Update
 

The 2007 Missouri Community College Association (MCCA) membership drive will wind up on Friday, Sept. 28.  You still have a chance to enter a drawing for a fabulous prize donated by the SCC Bookstore.  Deadline to enter: Monday, Sept. 24.  To enter, drop off your completed application and payment in the Human Resources office, ADM 1123.  Checks should be made payable to MCCA.  Contact Jeanine Williams at jeanine_williams@stchas.edu or x8593 for an application.  Learn more about MCCA.

SCC's United Way campaign will kick off at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in SC 205 with special guest speaker, Billy Collier of United Services (and SCC Board of Trustees member).  Attendees can enter a drawing for a car.  United Way pledge cards should be in mailboxes by Sept. 24.  Turn in your pledge card by 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, and you’ll be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift card to Bristol's Bar and Grill.  More information to come!

Sign up now for flu vaccinations.  BarnesCare will be on campus from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in HUM 102.  Employees, spouses, and dependents who are at least 18 years old are eligible to receive the vaccination at $25 per shot.  Make checks payable to BarnesCare, or bring exact amount of cash (they will be unable to make change).  Contact Jessica James at jjames@stchas.edu or x8393 to sign up.

Breast Cancer Awareness Week

There will be a free screening of the documentary The Breast Cancer Diaries at 1 and 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in the SSB Auditorium.  Popcorn will be provided.  Sponsored by the SCC Social Science Society and Student Activities Office.

Passionately Pink Tie-Dye T-Shirt Day is from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the campus plaza.  Tie-dye your own T-shirt to help fund a cure for breast cancer.  All materials provided to make your own unique pink T-shirt!  Proceeds will benefit the local Karen Weidinger Foundation.  Cost: $5 per shirt, or bring your own shirt and tie-dye it for free (donations appreciated).  Questions? “Think Smart” training sessions are presented by Bob Gill, SCC instructional media manager.

Exploring the World With Google Earth will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in LRC 238.  Learn how to use Google Earth to create customized maps; view the Earth from various viewpoints; and zoom in to get detailed pictures of the planet’s surface.  Discover ways to implement this new tool in geography, history, foreign language, anthropology, and political science classes.

Explore a new generation of software that makes it easier than ever to create exciting slideshows from your digital pictures.  The next “Think Smart” training session, Creating Digital Slideshows, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in LRC 238.  Discover tips to spice up your final presentation and create your own slideshow.
