Course Title Description

Technology Classes

Running Data Queries in Access 2007 In this workshop you will start with planning and creating a database, but the primary focus will be on running queries.
Excel and Word Basics for Office 2007 In this three-hour session you will learn Excel and Word basics. At the end of this session you will know how to build a simple formula in Excel; learn to cut and paste, use bullets and formatting in Word. This session will help prepare you to take Excel 2007 Advanced and Word 2007 Advanced.
Excel 2007 Advanced
This session will expand your knowledge on working with formulas. You will learn how to use formulas with multiple operators; display and trace formulas; and understand formula errors. This session will explore filtering data, creating custom auto filters and using advanced filters. You will learn how to work with tables and pivot tables, explore “what if” scenarios.
Outlook Advanced This workshop will review Outlook's features, including attaching files, creating and managing folders, using contacts, appointments, calendar and tasks. You will use the “out-of-office” assistant and explore importing data into your Contact database.
Publisher This workshop will cover a basic overview of the software and simple design guidelines. You will also learn how to create a simple flyer, brochure, newsletter and an e-mail mailing.
Datatel/ Colleague This course will include a two-part session, which can be attended individually or in its entirety:
Student Module (ST) – Basics for looking up student/course enrollment information and understanding certain screens within the student module. Due to employees’ varying needs and access levels, topics will include: how to find student information such as address, e-mail and phone number; class schedules, transcripts, gpas; class roster inquiries, course grades, course enrollment status; and understanding student account balances and restriction codes.
Finance Module (CF) – Working with budget information, how to navigate within the budget screens and understanding the basics related to receipts and disbursements.
Word 2007 Advanced
In this class you will create a table, work with formulas and convert a table. The class will cover performing mail merges. You will learn how to set up the main document, create a data source, insert merge fields and complete a mail merge. We will look at creating a simple fillable form. If time permits, this class will give you an overview of working with templates.

Staff Training

EAP – Proactive Finances for Everyday Living You are working hard for your money, but is your money working hard for you? Join us for this informative and educational program. Participants receive information about a variety of financial planning concepts including: spending plans, credit, insurance, investing and retirement. You will walk away knowing where your money is going and making sure you get the most from it.
Strategic Planning for SCC Employees This session provides interested employees with an overview of the strategic planning process at SCC and how it relates to unit planning. We will explain and apply key planning terms, review our current SCC Strategic Plan and participate in planning activities to improve your understanding of the process. There will be prizes plus you will receive an attractive, useful gift to help you plan. Open to any SCC employee.
Customer Service What is world class customer service? What are the pitfalls that people fall into when trying to deliver customer service? What techniques can be used to reduce customer service stress? Find answers to these questions, how to handle demanding customers, how to project a customer-friendly image and more in this session.
EAP – How to Hold a Productive Meeting In this session participants will learn to transform time-wasters into time-maximizers; create an atmosphere that allows for the sharing of ideas, information and opinions; understand the importance of feedback; and develop an effective agenda.
Project Management This workshop provides practical training in fundamental project management concepts and techniques. Participants are taught standard vocabulary and discover how projects are designed, executed and controlled. They learn about scope definition and management, status reporting, risk management and more. The format includes a mixture of short exercises, group discussions and lecture. In clear and simple language, this course explains what is takes to bring a project to a successful conclusion.
EAP – Identity Theft Prevention This discussion covers personal identity theft as well as avoiding liability for identity theft from an employer/employee standpoint and the responsibility for handling personal information.

Management Classes – Supervisors Only

Civil Treatment for Managers This course provides managers with the tools they need to practice fair and legal management in today's changing workplace. You will learn how to take complex legal standards and translate them into guidelines for professional behavior. Using an interactive and experiential design, participants serve as witnesses and jurors in simulated cases, learning firsthand how their conduct can either cause or prevent liability and other workplace problems.
Policy Review / Update Policies are used to set standards which reflect the culture of the College and to comply with important laws. They communicate guidelines and parameters which provide a consistent reference and framework for employees and afford supervisors and managers with a reliable structure for maintaining fairness in decision-making and discipline. This session will give you the opportunity to review many of SCC’s board policies and procedures and obtain a better understanding of how to administer them.
EAP – Legal Landmines
Legal issues in the workplace can be very serious and difficult to understand. This session will include information on:

By gaining an understanding of the laws and rights, you will have the tools to better handle legal matters that may arise and increase the quality and service of your department.

Managing Performance Problems This course builds leaders’ skills in handling chronic performance or work habit problems or serious misconduct. Leaders will learn how to document the problem and explain what the employee must do to address it. Learn to take appropriate action, based on best practices, to effectively address ongoing performance and work habit problems or serious misconduct.
Strategic Planning for Planning Unit Leaders This session provides department planning leaders with a brief overview of the strategic planning process at SCC and its relationship to unit planning. We will review and use key planning terms, practice using the online planning forms, review the Balanced Scorecard and discuss solutions to the challenges you have encountered during the planning process. There will be prizes plus you will receive an attractive, useful gift to help you plan. For department planning leaders only.
Interviewing Skills / Legal Issues This course will focus on the behavioral interviewing process enabling you to improve your selection decisions. You will learn how to create and pose job-related, behavioral-based interview questions and how to interpret responses. You will also be more confident about the fairness and legality of your interviews after completing this course.

and Consequences

Through this seminar you will acquire a new set of skills that will enable you create an environment where people want to be part of a winning team, while balancing the needs of the organization, your team, the individual players and yourself.
EAP – Motivating Through Recognition Recognizing the strengths of others and sharing those strengths with them requires a conscious effort. In this workshop you will come to understand the power that motivation and recognition can have on your employees.
EAP – How to Delegate Learn how to concentrate on your priorities and bring out the leadership potential in others. Learn how to lead by example, create buy-in and discover and develop the potential in your team members.
